As classical musicians in the Boulder/Denver area, we'd crossed paths for several years, but the day that changed everything was Halloween 2018 (truly fitting if you know our love for all things spooky & horror). Mo was subbing in for the soprano of Solis Singers for a Halloween gig at CU Boulder where we sang a "Tribute to Gesualdo" by our dear mutual friend (and officiant!), John Boggs. We were dressed in what we call absurdist Renaissance attire, had a blast making music together, and finished the night at the iconic Dark Horse bar in Boulder, a place that would become our haunt for years to come. Mo soon joined Solis as the resident soprano and the rest is history!
In true Mo + Max fashion, we were covered in mud after a precarious hike up to Makaleha Falls in Kapa'a, Kauai. If we had a dollar for every time we said "Are you sure this is the trail?" we could've paid for Mo's engagement ring 😂. We had a blast climbing through the bamboo jungle, scrambling up slippery, moss covered rocks, wading through inches of mud, swinging ourselves under and over giant, fallen trees, and finally, taking a dip in the breathtaking waterfall pool when we reached the top. We were perched on a few slippery rocks near the water when Max asked Mo to be his teammate in this crazy life. We spent the rest of our incredible vacation celebrating with a 17 mile kayak of the Napali Coast, more hiking, and enjoying the gorgeous beaches around the island. Needless to say, it was a memorable proposal.
