Question

How will COVID-19 impact the wedding planning process?

Answer

Since we set a long engagement, we haven't had to reschedule so far, and we've had ample time to develop contingency plans in case of changing situations. So far, our plan is still to have an in-person ceremony in November. Hopefully there will be more access to the vaccine and the coronavirus will be on the decline. We do ask that for anyone who is unable to receive the vaccine by the wedding date, that they attend the virtual livestream of our wedding rather than attend in person for the safety of our immunocompromised guests.

Question

I want to help you celebrate, but I don't feel comfortable attending.

Answer

That is totally fine! We completely understand. We work in retail and in public schools in a major metropolis - we've been as cautious as we can be. That said, we don't want anybody to feel unsafe or feel that they must sacrifice their safety for companionship. We intend to livestream and record the ceremony and parts of the reception, so that those who won't physically be in attendance will still get to share in the moment with us. We'll update the website with information on the streaming and videos closer to the wedding date.

Question

Why have your wedding on a weekday?

Answer

The short answer is: it just made sense for us. The long answer is that we took a lot of factors into consideration on this one: venue availability, wedding party availability, scheduling, costs, weather, location, and what date we'd want our wedding anniversary to fall on. Most of our friends and family, us included, have fluctuating schedules due to retail jobs, self-employment, caretaking, etc. For the retail/essential workers, we almost never have a free weekend and it's nearly impossible to request a full weekend off, no matter how far in advance you ask. And Chicago venues charge even more for weekend weddings, especially with so many couples having postponed their special day due to COVID-19. It didn't make sense to us to fight with the other couples for a heftier cost when it would be largely inconvenient to many of our guests. That said, we understand this timing won't work for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Question

What’s the theme? How should I dress?

Answer

Our theme is ‘Echo Deco.’ Think 1920s-inspired vintage flair without going full Great Gatsby. Semi-formal and cocktail casual are preferred, and remember that November in Chicago can be quite chilly so dress warmly!

Question

Can I bring a guest?

Answer

We wish we could welcome all our loved ones! Unfortunately, we have to do our best to keep a strict guest list. We want to keep the safety and comfort of our current guests at our top priority, and also ensure that those with pre-existing conditions are not at risk. We're sorry if that creates some complications for you. Hopefully, those in attendance will provide plenty of friendly atmosphere! For those who really want to see the wedding spectacle, let them know that they can join in on the livestream or watch the recording of the livestream later.

Question

Can I bring my child/children?

Answer

We won't have anything in place to occupy the little ones. The event will be in the evening, and there will be drinking, so it might not be the best environment for them. If you plan to bring along children, please let us know in advance so that we can make arrangements for the menu.
