After being with each other practically 24/7 throughout college, the first few years post-grad were a rough transition for me & my three best friends (Katie, Janelle, Logan). We hadn't seen each other in several months, so a reunion was long overdue. We all met up at Katie's place for a fun weekend in Columbus. It was Saturday night & I unfortunately felt a migraine coming on. If you know me well, you know that my migraines are pretty debilitating. The girls kept talking about how we all really needed a night out together (aka pretend we were still in college), so with enough peer pressure, I joined in. We ended up going out with our guy friend, Quinn. Quinn & Janelle were the only ones in the group who were in a relationship, so they made it their night's mission to "find us some guys." We all arrived at local bar, Callahan’s, & got a drink. Quinn disappeared for a good 15 minutes & comes back with a huge smile on his face and excitedly shares: "I found some guys!!!" The three of us give him the biggest eye-roll. We all figured he was playing a trick on us & the "guys" were either creepy old men, or some kids with fake IDs. It turns out Mitch also has a guy friend named Quinn. Mitch was at Callahan's with his friends, & as MY Quinn was walking buy Mitch's group, he overheard his name & thought they were talking to him. To humor my Quinn, we met this group of guys & they all turned out to be super nice. Mitch & I ended up chatting all night, & although he knew I lived in Michigan, he somehow still asked for my number & even bought me a drink (if you know Mitch, this is a BIG deal). Although Mitch thought my name was Marie for the first hour, I could tell something was different about him, in a good way. When the four of us got home, I was so excited that I even did a celebratory snow angel in Katie's yard. My mom always said I would be the last person she thought would meet their significant other in a bar, but she's clearly never been to Callahan's. -Maureen
We planned a trip to New York City around the Holidays, as it's something we both have always wanted to do. It was actually my first time visiting New York. As we were planning activities to do, I knew this was the trip I was going to ask Maureen to marry me. Central Park seemed like the perfect location. Before the trip, I lined up activities based on how the weather was supposed to be. The temperature was projected to be 60 and no rain on Sunday, so that was the day I was going to do it. About a day before our trip, the weather forecast completely flipped, and Sunday was now projected to be in the 30's, rainy, and windy. I had to stick to my plan. After brunch, we took a train from Brooklyn to Central Park to go for a walk through the park. Maureen kept questioning why we would go for a walk when it was so bad outside, but I promised there was an "indoor location" I wanted to show her. The walk to our destination took about 15-20 minutes, and we were both completely soaked by the end. The indoor location was actually Bethesda Terrace (for anyone who has seen Home Alone 2). It was at that point where I began to hear someone playing the guitar (100% unplanned), and he started playing a love song which to this day I cannot remember. Once we were under cover and away from the rain, I dropped to one knee, and she said yes. We celebrated with Maureen's cousin Jack and friends afterwards at a bar in the city, and had an amazing dinner in Little Italy that night to cap off an amazing day. - Mitch
