FAQs

A few frequently asked questions. If there are any that we haven't covered, please reach out to Maura or James directly and we'll see if we can help!
Question

Do I need a passport to travel to St. Thomas?

Answer

For US Citizens: St. Thomas is part of the US Virgin Islands (USVI). You do not need a passport to enter, but you will need a REAL ID compliant driver's license to board your domestic flight. If your state license is not REAL ID compliant, you must bring your passport. For UK & International Guests: Yes, you will need a valid passport and must comply with standard US entry requirements (such as an approved ESTA or visa).

Question

When should I book my flights, and what are the best arrival times?

Answer

We highly recommend booking your flights as early as possible to secure the best rates and routes, as November kicks off the popular Caribbean travel season. Best Arrival Window: Aim for flights that land in St. Thomas (STT) between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. This gives you plenty of daylight to navigate the island, get through the airport, and check into your accommodation before the evening.

Question

What currency is used on the island?

Answer

The island uses the US Dollar (USD). While credit cards are widely accepted at hotels and major restaurants, cash is highly recommended for taxis, smaller local vendors, and tipping.

Question

How far is the wedding venue from the airport?

Answer

The Hideaway at Hull Bay is located on the Northside of the island. Depending on island traffic and the winding roads, travel time from the Cyril E. King Airport (STT) is approximately 25 to 35 minutes.

Question

Do Uber or Lyft operate in St. Thomas?

Answer

No, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft do not operate in the USVI.

Question

How do taxi services work on the island?

Answer

Taxis are plentiful but operate a bit differently here: - Cash Only: Nearly all island taxis only accept cash. - Charged Per Person: Taxi rates are regulated by the USVI Taxi Commission and are charged per person, not per vehicle. They may also charge a small additional fee ($1–$3) per piece of luggage. Pro Tip: Taxis are easy to flag down at the airport and major resorts. If you find a driver you like, ask for their phone number! Many guests find it easiest to stick with one trusted private driver for the weekend.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

Guests are asked to book their own accommodation. There are excellent resorts, boutique hotels, and villas/Airbnb options scattered across the island. Recommendation: Look for stays on the Northside (near Hull Bay) for the shortest commute to the wedding events, or the Charlotte Amalie/Havensight areas for a central location.

Question

Do you have a gift registry?

Answer

Please know that your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for! We’re lucky enough to already have everything we need for our home, so we are choosing not to register for gifts. Your hugs, laughter, and presence on our big day are more than enough.
