After 10 (wonderful!) years of being single, Teira felt the Lord prompting her to explore dating. She reluctantly downloaded a couple of apps and after a few months, she figured that maybe this dating thing was just supposed to be a brief learning experience. The conversation with Matt started light, with a comment on a Kirk Franklin concert photo. Teira didn't think much of it until he asked to meet her in person. She was ready to decline when a friend reminded her that she was on dating apps so that she could actually date (go figure). So she said yes and the first date was nice enough to agree to a second date. The second date was the day after Teira's birthday and she had only told Matt this the night before so that she could explain her late response to his message. After some deliberation, due to being tired, Teira showed up on the second date to find Matt on crutches! She felt horrible that she almost decided not to come and she was quite impressed that he had made the effort to come. Toward the end of a delightful date, Matt presented Teira with an X-Men-wrapped birthday gift. And not just any birthday gift...comic books!!! Anyone who knows Teira knows that she loves books AND that ever since she watched The Beauty and the Beast as a little girl, she has thought that any man that gifts a woman with books is a keeper. Teira was impressed once more by such a thoughtful gift procured with such late notice by a man on crutches after only 1 date! And the rest is history.
After a lovely, yet brief first date, Matthew informed LaTeira that he may "look a bit different" on their second date. Disaster had struck on the basketball court. Matthew had an accident and injured his knee. Unbeknownst to him at the time, Matthew tore his ACL two days before he was to reuinite with LaTeira. Upon arrival to the date venue, LaTeira was relieved that she met the same man as last time, and not a catfish. The "different" look he mentioned was a new pair of crutches. LaTeira later shared with Matthew that she was won over by the effort he put forth to see her again. Having celebrated her birthday just the day prior, she was not looking for, or expecting much excitement from this date. But after an enjoyable time spent, sharing conversation over a basket of shoe string fries and an unforgettable pear tart, one last surprise awaited her. It turns out that among other redeeming qualities, Matthew was an attentive listener. A pair of books stashed behind the restaurant bar by the helpful staff, now presented to her by the charming gentleman with one good leg, two crutches, and a whole lot of love (and a future!) to share!
