Yes! Mauritius' borders open to international travel on 1 October, and we have decided to move forward with the wedding as planned. Of course, we are still very much experiencing the effects of the pandemic. There's no predicting whether variants of the virus will cause nations to react in ways that restrict our movement. For that reason, we strongly advise including travel insurance in any of your bookings.
Cocktail attire. Bring your best suit and tie or cocktail dress (any length). Avoid stilettos and favor block heels or cute flats instead, since you'll be walking on grass all evening.
We will have shuttles leaving from Pointe aux Canonniers in the afternoon to take guests to the ceremony, as well as shuttles at the end of the night to take guests back. The exact times and pick-up/drop-off locations will be announced closer to the wedding day.
We recommend booking now. Prices are expected to start increasing in early August. We strongly advise purchasing travel insurance and/or selecting an airline with a flexible cancellation policy in the unlikely event that we are forced to postpone due to any resurgence in COVID.
We recommend a minimum of two days before the wedding but encourage you to arrive by Monday, 22 November, to join us for a week of fun activities.
If you're planning on visiting other countries before or after your trip to Mauritius, please do some independent research about COVID in those places. Each country has handled the pandemic with varying degrees of success, and the availability of vaccines and tests varies widely. Remember that you will need a negative PCR test within 72 hours of your departure to Mauritius, so you'll need to factor that into your plans.
Yes. PCR tests are mandatory for all guests, including babies and infants. You will be required to get a PCR test 5-7 days before arrival and can only travel if it is negative. Children under 18 years old do not need to be vaccinated. If a child tests positive, they will be admitted to a hospital or hotel hospital, depending on their health status. Children over 5 years old must wear a mask in all mandatory areas. Children must travel with a fully vaccinated parent.
Yes. The time difference is pretty significant as Mauritius is on GMT+4. We recommend planning for a couple of days when you arrive to just relax, sleep, and get acclimated.
No. On arrival, your passport will be stamped allowing entry to the country for 60 days. Visit the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius website or the nearest Mauritius Embassy or Consulate for further information. ** as a general reminder, make sure that your passport will be valid for 6 months after the travel date
Please check the Travel page for some hotel and house rental options.
Mauritius is the most developed country in Africa and welcomes one million tourists a year (except during COVID). It has all types of accommodations from 5 star hotels to beach house rentals. The island is famous for its white-sand beaches and crystal-clear warm waters but there is also great hiking in the forested areas, and world-class diving and snorkelling off-shore. Mauritius is a small country (45km/28miles wide and 65km/40miles long) but depending on where you're going it can often take you one to two hours to get to an attraction. You can get around by bus and taxi, or by renting a car. You don't need special paperwork to rent a car in Mauritius and can do so with your foreign driving license. However, be warned that we drive on the left and traffic circles are common. If you prefer not to drive, taxis are widely available.
Hot and humid. Mauritius is a tropical island so plan for sunny beach days! The average high in Mauritius during November is 29ºC/84ºF, with evenings staying nice and warm at 20ºC/68ºF. The sea temperature is 25ºC/77ºF, which is lovely for swimming. Make sure you bring lots of sunscreen and insect repellent as mosquitoes can be relentless in the evenings.
Mauritian Cuisine is a combination of rich exotic flavors from various cultures (African, Indian, Chinese, and European). Some of the highlights include seafood, curry, fried noodles, biryani, and lots of unique street foods. Beyond the local cuisine, there is something for everyone from Italian restaurants to American fast food.
While the tap water is safe to drink, the most reliable option when traveling is always to have bottled water handy. You may wish to plan a trip to a convenience or grocery store to stock up.
No, Mauritians speak English, French, and Creole. While you don't need to be fluent in French to get around, we do encourage you to learn a couple of common French phrases, Duolingo is a great free resource.
Please check with your individual provider to see what your options are for international travel. WhatsApp and other IP-based apps are good options, or you can purchase a SIM card for the duration of your stay. The local providers are Emtel and Orange.

Please check your return country's official requirements for return entry. As of July 15, the United States requires a negative COVID test taken within three calendar days of departure.
