It was December 2021. Matthew and Nicole were chatting on Hinge planning their first date. After New Year, they first met at a true Bozeman treasure, the Rocking R Bar. Nicole had spent the last 6 months since graduation working in assisted living, deciding if she wanted to pursue applying to medical school. Matthew had moved to Bozeman in June 2021 to work at Cashman's Nursery as a landscape designer. At first, their date was going well. Nicole was excited to meet a tall, Midwest, nice man who matched her enjoyment of all things outdoors. Matt was excited to meet a runner girl who also fancied herself a snowmobile ride. It was at 9:30 pm that the Rocking R Bar turned on their college music; this was when the date went from pleasant to interesting. Matt was too fearful to tell Nicole he could not hear a word she was saying, instead staring to read her lips while she met her daily word count x2. They decided to walk to the Cannery down Main Street to finish their date when they were met with some unwarranted advice. A woman sitting at the bar turned to their table and said the following: "I am sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to let you guys know you are a very cute couple. *cue an awkward thank you* But I just want to give you some advice. Never get married. And if you do, get a prenup". They go on to explain that this is their first date. This was the memorable and awkward beginning of Matt and Nicole's dating. Three months later, a timeframe Matt will never live down, he asked Nicole to be his girlfriend on her favorite hike outside Bozeman, Indian Ridge. They continued their love for hiking, camping, and backpacking for the next two and a half years. Little did Nicole know that 2.5 years later, on that same Indian Ridge hike, Matt would propose July 21st, 2024.
