After taking a several months off from dating in New York City (IYKYK), Kelli decided to give it another try. Around the same time, Matt’s sister Lindsay encouraged him to put himself back out there. They both downloaded Bumble—and on February 14, 2021, they swiped right on each other. That day is now lovingly known as their Swipe-O-Versary. They started chatting right away, though Matt kept things interesting by giving Kelli a fake name, conveniently forgetting to mention he had a cat—and somehow, also failing to mention that he was a magician. (At least, that’s how Kelli remembers it!) After a few weeks of messaging, Kelli gave Matt a gentle push and told him to take her out. On February 27, they had their first date—and it lasted eight hours. From that day on, it was the beginning of Kub & Bear! After a few weeks Matt invited Kelli to meet his 11-year-old son, Zavian — who was much shorter than her at the time — she was already bracing for a big moment. But when Matt opened the door, like some kind of magic trick, Tugglebutt the cat appeared out of nowhere. Kelli’s immediate reaction? “WHAT is that?!” Since then, they’ve shared countless adventures: traveling to exciting places, glamping (Kelli’s first time!), moving in together, and of course, Kelli becoming best friends with Tugglebutt the cat.
