Getting Here + Hotels

Tofino is a small surf town on the western edge of Vancouver Island, and while it can be a bit of a trek to get here, we think it's worth it! The fastest and most convenient way to get here is by taking a flight from Vancouver (approximately 45 minutes). Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo (1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours long), followed by a 3-hour drive. If you choose option #2, watch out for whales from the ferry, and be sure to stop at Cathedral Grove to see the giant old-growth Douglas Fir trees (some of the oldest and tallest trees in Canada)! Another good half-way stop is Coombs, where you'll find Goats on the Roof (literally) Ice Cream and Country Market, as well as an awesome Italian restaurant! You can also fly directly into Victoria from most major airports, and drive about 4.5 hours to Tofino (passing by Nanaimo and all the spots listed above)!

BC Ferries

Please make sure to make a ferry reservation in advance if you will be driving onto the ferry. From Vancouver, there are two ferries to Nanaimo (the closest ferry terminal to Tofino on Vancouver Island): Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, and Tsawwassen to Duke Point.
