Skyline Drive is Shenandoah National Park’s linear conduit, with 75 overlooks connecting travelers to all the major visitor centers, campgrounds, lodges, picnic areas and most trailheads. Concrete posts numbered every mile keep you apprised of your whereabouts. A $30 National Park entrance fee is required to enter Skyline Drive.
The Blue Ridge Parkway starts in Waynesboro VA and travels 469 miles along the Appalachian mountain ridges to North Carolina. It contains hundreds of scenic overlooks, hikes, restaurants, and shops. The Blue Ridge Parkway is free to enter.
Sherando Lake Recreation Area is known locally as the crown jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Enjoy picnicking in this shaded and woody area, while relaxing on the sandy beach of a 25-acre spring fed lake. Access to multiple trailheads and rustic architecture provide numerous points of interests to enjoy. An $8 admission fee is required to enter the area.
Afton is a cute town located 10 minutes away from the hotel. It rests at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Check out Afton Overlook or Rockfish Valley Overlook for scenic, drive-up views. These overlooks can be accessed at the north entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Afton is also considered a "wine/brewery country" of Virginia, drive down 151 and check out the mountains and the wine and brews (Afton Mountain Vineyards; Veritas Vineyards, Blue Mountain Brewery, Brewing Tree Beer Co to name a few). If you are hungry, stop in and get a bite to eat at Blue Mountain Brewery which has great food and beer and gorgeous views.

Shenandoah is a large park. Our venues are close to the southern park region (rockfish gap entrance is closest). Turk Mountain is a good hike-short with pretty views. Visit Thomas Jefferson's historic home. Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States, the author of the Declaration of Independence, and the founder of the University of Virginia. Tickets are $32 per adult, and should be purchased in advance.
