Matt proposed to Bree on May 24, 2025, during a weekend dedicated to celebrating her birthday. The weekend began with a series of thoughtful surprises including a trip to an observatory, where they had the rare opportunity to look through the world’s largest public telescope, taking in distant galaxies, glowing planets, and far-off stars. The next day unfolded with a scenic hike through the Columbia River Gorge in Washington State, where towering cliffs and rushing water set the stage for what was to come. Matt shared that he had added a verse to the song he wrote for Bree on her 30th birthday the year before, waiting patiently for the perfect place to play it. His focus on finding just the right place gave her a few suspicions. At the top of a waterfall overlooking the lake along the Ancient Lakes Trail, Matt pulled out his guitar and began to sing. When the new verse carried the song into his proposal, time seemed to stand still for them both.
