FAQs

The Wedding Website of Michaela Spreier and Matthew Unger
Question

Do I need a visa to travel to Germany?

Answer

U.S. citizens can enter Germany for up to 90 days without a visa. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months past your arrival date.

Question

Is English widely spoken in Frankfurt?

Answer

Yes! Most people in Frankfurt speak English, especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas.

Question

Do I need cash or can I use credit cards?

Answer

In Germany, cash is used much more widely than in the US. While touristy spots will accept credit cards (always choose the option to pay in Euros as this allows your bank to choose the best exchange rate), the best local spots will only accept cash. We highly recommend taking out some Euros if you plan on doing anything outside of the wedding.

Question

What’s the weather like in late August/early September?

Answer

Expect mild-to-warm weather (around 70–80°F / 20–27°C). A light jacket or sweater is a good idea for evenings.

Question

What’s the best way to get to Frankfurt?

Answer

Frankfurt is easily accessible via Frankfurt International Airport (FRA), which offers direct flights from most major cities. From the airport, the city center is just a short train or taxi ride away.

Question

Where should we stay?

Answer

We have reserved two hotel blocks close to the venue. You can find booking info and rates on the “Travel” page.

Question

How does public transportation work in Frankfurt, and how do I buy tickets?

Answer

Frankfurt has an excellent and easy-to-navigate public transportation system, including subways (U-Bahn), regional trains (S-Bahn), trams, and buses—all operated under the RMV (Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund) network. You can purchase tickets at machines in train and subway stations, on trams and buses (card or cash), or through the RMV app or DB Navigator app, which both offer English options. Germany acts on an honor system. You just board the train and/or bus, and you will randomly be asked to show your ticket.

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

While we love your little ones, our wedding will be an adults-only celebration (except for our flower girl). Thank you for understanding!

Question

What’s the dress code?

Answer

Dress to impress! We’re going for semi-formal/cocktail attire.

Question

Can I bring a physical gift to the wedding?

Answer

We kindly ask that you ship any gifts directly to our home in the U.S. to avoid travel complications.

Question

If I’m giving a check as a gift, who should I make it out to?

Answer

Thank you so much for your generosity! Please make checks out to Michaela Spreier, Matthew Unger or The Unger’s. If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out and we’ll be happy to clarify.

Question

Are there other events besides the wedding day?

Answer

Yes! Matt and I will be arriving in Frankfurt about a week before the big day for pre celebrations. We’ll be doing an activity each day that you are welcome to join. Please message us directly for more details. We’re also arranging for a walking tour of Frankfurt for all guests as well as hosting a welcome party for all guests on Friday, September 4th. More details on the “Schedule” page.

Question

What time should we arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

Please arrive by 1:30 pm (ceremony will begin at 2 pm) so we can begin promptly. Plan for some time to find seating and admire the venue!

Question

Will the ceremony be in English or German?

Answer

The Catholic ceremony will be in English.
