We live here. That should be enough reason to visit Mörfelden :) Coolest Place: Faselbräu Brewery Best Sunday Afternoon Activity: A walk through the Mönchbruch, a nature reserve Best Fast Food: Evren Dalles Kebap - if you don't know "Döner", give it a try Favorite (German) Restaurants: "s'Wirtshaus" or "Goldener Apfel" Best Supermarket: LIDL & REWE Best Bakery: Schäfers Bäcker
You will check this out, because after all: that is where the wedding takes place! Odenwald covers almost 1000 square miles of forests, mountains and beautiful scenery. We recommend visiting three distinct places: 1. Our Wedding Venue 2. Felsenmeer (Sea of Rocks) 3. Burg Frankenstein (a well preserved castle that you can hike or drive up to)
We live right next door to this city. There are probably prettier places to see but we still recommend putting it on your list because there are two unique (and extemely yummy) restaurants we have for your dinner plans: 1. Shiraz - Persian-Oriental 2. Mr. Peppers - an a little more pricey location offering food and whiskey pairings. If you are a whisky fan or looking for a different culinary experience, this could be for you
This city just has beautiful views and a nice city center to walk around and step into a shop or two. For afternoon hunger, you can stop in at Wurstbendel Wirtshaus and try their Brizza. Pizza crossed with prezel and topped with various Bavarian highlights. While in Aschaffenburg don't forget to check out Schönbusch (a lovely park) and enjoy the local beer from Brauerei Schlappeseppel (the "Spezial" is a personal favorite of Matteo).
Mainhatten: Germany's banking metropolis is home and heart to a lot of things to do and see. We want to point out a few culinary or somehow memorable ideas. Start the day at the Frankfurter Kleinmarkthalle, a bazar like market in the city center. Try local and international foods & drinks or have a wine and enjoy the hustle and bustle. Take a tour on the Ebbelwei-Express (Apple-Wine-Tram). A ride includes the local specialty Apfelwein (alcoholic apple juice... ish) and offers you a one-hour-tour through the city. After seeing some of the city highlights, enjoy a walk by the Main river and close with a traditional Frankfurt dinner at "Zum Gemalten Haus". For the real deal order the following: Appetizer: "Handkäs mit Musik", Main Course: Frankfurter Schnitzel and to drink: "Apfelwein gespritzt" For Sports fans: maybe check out a home game of the local soccer team (Eintracht Frankfurt) and experience the atmosphere of 50k people singing and shouting for their beloved team.
Whether hiking up the Neroberg (or rather take the Nerobergbahn) or just enjoying the busy life in the beautiful city center, Wiesbaden offers a variety of options. While up on the Neroberg, don't forget to visit the Russian-Orthodox St. Elizabeth Church! Sidenote: if you are into gambling, suit up and win the pot at the Wiesbaden Casino. Otherwise, it is also really pretty to look at from the outside!
Enjoy a day at this beautiful winery. Walk around the blooming vineyards all around and afterwards reward yourself with a glass (or bottle) of local wine as well as a delicious Flammkuchen (think flatbread but way better). Pro Tip: combine with a tour through Rüdesheim
Admittedly: this still is on our bucket list, so no personal experience yet. But the idea of staying overnight in an old wine barrel sounds too fascinating to not put down here. And if you decide to do this, let us know what you think!
We visited this city for Emily's birthday in 2018. From the historic "Festung Ehrenbreitstein" you have a perfect view down on the "Deutsches Eck" (where the Mosel flows into the Rhine river) and and the rest of the city. When we went there we combined it with a stop at the must-see "Burg Eltz" (one of Germany's most famous castles) And if you are not a afraid of heights, the "Geyerley Brücke" (one of the biggest suspension bridges) might be one for you. This one is also en route to Koblenz.
What isn't there to love about Würzburg? With a beautiful city center, vineyards up the mountain side and the iconic wine-bridge (yes, it is a bridge on which we sell and drink wine) you cannot go wrong here. Combine the journey with a stop the famous "Toppels Verdrehte Welt" - believe us: it is hilarious!
Known for its medieval architecture Rothenburg is filled with historical buildings including a city wall all around. Its iconic houses and streets have been part of lots of movies so you might even recognize it when you see it :) For this city as well: no specific recommendations but a really nice place to visit.
Emily's first time in Germany led her to Köln, so naturally, we put it on the list. The cities dome is one of the biggest cathedrals in the world and the city has a one of a kind chocolate museum to explore. Also an evening in one of the uncountable bars drinking the local "Kölsch" will definitley be memorable (or not...). Pro Tip: in Köln, if you finish your beer, you will automatically be brought a new one, unless you put your coaster on top of your glass.
Colmar is located in the French Elsass, a region well known for its wine & cuisine. We spent a weekend here exploring Colmar and visiting the nearby villages (Eguisheim, Riquewihr, Ribeauville, etc.). Stroll through the city centers where you will find beautiful old architecture. The places are named some of the "most beautiful villages in France". If you get the chance, go to one of the local wineries and do a tasting.
Mittenwald is our representative for vising the Alpes in general. It is where our shared love for hiking in the mountains began. Around this city you will find a variety of stunning waterfalls and ravines as well as mountains to climb (or take the cable cars) and excellent local restaurants. To top it off, the local brewery (Brauerei Mittenwald) offers delicious beers for every taste bud. Ravines we saw: Leutascher Geisterklamm and Partnachklamm
Germany is not enough? In neighbouring Netherlands you have the rare opportunity (mid April-beginning of May) to visit this magnificent, world-famous tulip park with almost 500 acres to explore. Even for non-flower enthusiasts (aka Matteo) this place is one of a kind. We stayed overnight in Noordwijk where you can find a lot of pretty hotels with sea views - located directly between Den Haag and Amsterdam. Pro Tip: Buy tickets to the park in advance to avoid the waiting lines at the venue!
