How We Met

Turns out online dating doesn't suck.

Virginia and Matthew met through a dating app called Hinge. They both had their fair share of bad dates from online "matches," but with their first date there was something different. The difference was that they're normal people, and that's exactly what they both were looking for. Matthew and Virginia started seeing each other more and more. They found out there was a lot in common between them. Virginia and Matthew share their love for dogs (especially their pups Tony and Pete), their families and friends, watching shows, trying new restaurants and cocktails, being on the lake, golfing, and organizing things, and then organizing them again. Most of all they both appreciated how they could both be themselves, open up and be accepted. That was very important to both of them in a growing relationship. Matthew made it official by asking Virginia to be his girlfriend on October 2nd, 2021. He asked the question while standing behind a glass door..... he had covid and Virginia brought over a care package for him. How cute right!? After that, came the introductions to each other’s families. Both sides welcomed the couple with open arms and helped Virginia and Matthew grow closer with every family get together. Then, after about a year of dating they decided it was time to take it to the next level. That's when Matthew sold his house and moved in with Virginia. This was a HUGE step and learning experience for both of them. They found out both of them complemented each other well in their household, and that further strengthened their bond and trust in their future together. The Proposal: Matthew and Virginia were dating for a little over 2 years and Matthew knew well before then, that Virginia was the "ONE". On November 3rd, 2023, he proposed to Virginia at their home in Royal Oak. Virginia was out walking their dog Pete in the neighborhood which usually takes around 35 minutes. In less than 20 minutes Matthew drove to the flower store, queued up Bruno Mars, "Marry You" on all the Alexa's in the house, shakingly put together a letter sign that read "Will you marry me?", and arranged the bouquet of white roses in a vase, cut stems and he even added the little packet of stuff! Needless to say he was nervous to get it all set up before she got back, but he got it done in time with minimal sweating and nervous shaking. Upon Virginia coming back, Matthew asked her, "Can you come here?". He was in the back room of their home. Virginia let out a sigh because she was doing something and assumed Matthew hurt himself, which happens a lot. She proceeded to walk to the back room and that is when Matthew turned on the music and Virginia's pace slowed down. She turned the corner of the doorway to the room and Matthew was on one knee in tears looking up at her. With out even asking "the question", he stood up to hug her as hard as he could! Matthew was so overjoyed to ask Virginia to be his wife, he couldn't get the words out. Eventually he asked her "Will you marry me?", and she said "Yes". These two love each other, support each other, and have the best time making each other laugh! Most of all these two are meant to be, and they are excited for all of you to be part of their big day of becoming husband and wife! Thank you for being part of their story!
