The ceremony will take place on the garden grounds of Monserrate Palace, at the Ruínas da Capela de Monserrate — not inside the main palace you’ll see when you Google “Monserrate,” but still within the estate grounds. The chapel ruins date back to the 1540s, though they were left in partial ruin after the devastating 1755 Lisbon earthquake. In the 1800s, the site was carefully preserved and reimagined as a Romantic-era “faux ruin” by Francis Cook, blending historic stonework with natural overgrowth.
Fly into Lisbon Airport (LIS). From there, take a train from Rossio Station to Sintra (~45 mins, €2-€5), or grab an Uber/Bolt (~45 mins, ~€20). We will update this site with our flights and plans, so if you would like to coordinate travel you may do so!
The venue is about 2 miles from Sintra center. We will let you know our plans once they are arranged so that we can coordinate! Travel time from Sintra-Vila to Monserrate: • By car/Uber/Bolt: ~10 minutes • By tuk-tuk: ~10-15 minutes (fun and scenic!) • By bus (434 or 435): ~15-20 minutes • On foot: About 45-60 minutes (a hilly, but beautiful walk)
Sintra in July is typically warm and dry, with daytime highs around 75-85°F. Evenings can cool off, especially in the hills, so we recommend bringing a light layer just in case. The venue dress code is fancy casual to semi-formal - Aim for something polished but comfortable for celebrating in a garden palace setting (and consider the cobblestones when choosing shoes!).
As long or as short as you would like! We will likely be in Sintra around July 3rd. We will be traveling for a while afterward and you are more than welcome to join for any amount.
NO!!! You came all this way and we want to spend as much time with all of you as possible! Please, please, please do not feel weird about joining us for any activity that interests you!
