Weddings are like the met gala in Pakistan...except they happen every weekend. Everyone comes in their most fashionable fits and jewels. There are no rules about outfit colors (white is welcome) and outshining the bride is nearly impossible. Music and dancing is essential - you just might see some choreographed moves from the wedding party. There will be dance floor - brush up on your Bollywood moves! Pakistani weddings emphasize community - to the point of 100s of wedding guests! There will be delicious food and mocktails (no alcohol).
Everyone is invited and welcomed to wear Pakistani formal-wear. You're also welcome to wear long dresses or skirts and suits. Pakistani clothes are modest and you may feel more comfortable dressing accordingly (covering legs, chest, and back). Pakistani feminine outfits are generally 3 pieces: a long top (covers midriff), a bottom, and a dupatta (scarf). Styles to look for include: shalwar kameez, maxi, sharara/gharara, anarkali. Masculine outfits are generally 2 pieces: a long top and loose fitting pants. Styles to look for: kurta shalwar, sherwani.
We recommend shopping in-person, if possible. You'll be able to try things on and get advice on what's in-fashion. Websites vary in pricing, quality, and delivery times. Shops in DFW - Mishal Studio, J. Junaid Jamshed, Pehnava Boutique, Siarra's Boutique
A nice way to say "everyone runs late."
Yes! We will be serving Pakistani and American food options. For entrees, there will be halal* chicken and vegetarian options. Please let us know if you have other dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate you. *What is halal? Halal is the Arabic term for "permissible." In the case of food, it refers to the way an animal was treated in life and in death. According to Islam, animals must be treated with dignity throughout the lifespan and slaughtered as humanely as possible.
