This is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Tahoe! Matt has fond memories anchoring the family boat on the shore and having a picnic here. Bring some binoculars because you may spot something on the little island. There is also a beautiful hike to a place called Eagle falls in this area as well.
Known for hosting the entire 1960 Winter Olympics, this place holds immense beauty. Check out the resort and do some shopping, or grab a cup of coffee at CoffeeBar. Also, if you decide to hike up the thunder mountain trail within Squaw Valley, you will get a free ride back down on the gondola!
READ THIS BEFORE YOU DO IT. Mt Tallac is arguably one of the toughest hikes in Tahoe. It is 10.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 3,500ft. It will take about 6 hours to complete. Most of the elevation gain comes as you ascend the mountain on a zig zag trail. It may be tough, but the the views are amazing. Mt. Tallac is one of the highest peaks surrounding the lake at 9,753 ft. above sea level. Not only will you have non-stop views of Lake Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness on the way to the summit, the Mt. Tallac trail offers a diversity of landscapes on your way up. From lush green forests, to 2 small alpine lakes, and meadows filled with wildflowers, the trail will not disappoint. Matt, his dad, and his brother have done this hike together and had a nice picnic at the top. Some tips if you want to do this: PACK PLENTY OF WATER at least 3 liters. Pack snacks or a lunch. plan accordingly as this hike is long. Have good hiking shoes.
This place is held dear by the D'Andrea family. Matt's late grandpa had a major a sweet tooth and loved coming to this place. He even made friends with the owner, AK. This place has handmade chocolates and a huge selection of everything sweet! (Including delicious ice cream). Tell AK you know Matt's dad, Jon D'Andrea, and he may even give you some free candy.
This is Matt's favorite restaurant by far in Tahoe. Serving up good ole fashion BBQ that makes your tastebuds water the moment you walk in. Chow down while looking out at the lake, the walk over and get some ice cream at Tahoe City Chocolates!
This is Matt's favorite breakfast place in Lake Tahoe. He's come here since he was a kid and they serve the best breakfast food in the area. Give it a try! Matt recommends getting the blueberry pancakes with chocolate chips and some coffee to wash it down. Get here early though! This place is the Eggs n Things of Tahoe and gets real busy real fast.
