It was the tale as old as time. Boy meets boy on internet, boy falls in love. In all seriousness, Matt took a trip to Sweden to meet up with some of his friends he had not seen in a very long time. We really did meet online though, while we were both together in the same city, in the same country, on the same planet. However, we never got the chance to meet up in person. Franc had just gotten back from a trip to Brazil and Matt was only in Stockholm for a few days. Neither of us thought anything about it at the time. We lived over 3,000 miles apart from each other, Matt in Iraq and Franc in Sweden. There obviously was some kind of connection though because we continued to talk, and the more we talk to closer we got. Within a few months we both knew that this was meant to be.

We took a trip to Greece for vacation and invited Matt's parents with us to Crete where the 4 of us all met at the airport in Heraklion on June 11, 2021. We then rented a car and drove to Chania where we stayed at a beautiful hotel on the beach for the next few nights. On the night of the 13th we had a private dinner catered on the beach, which Franc thought was a surprise for Matt's parents anniversary we had missed out on. After an amazing dinner, and a couple bottles of wine, we moved to the cutest set up that our planner (Wedding in Crete) had made up for us. Every detail was perfect and so romantic. Matt finally built up the courage, after some awkward moments of silence where Franc wondered what was going on. We both stood up, hugged, and told each other I love you, which was when Matt got down on one knee and fumbled some more of his words. Luckily Franc said yes, even though he was obviously in a moment of shock, and we were engaged! The fireworks went off and it truly was a magical moment. We got to celebrate with Matt's parents and immediately called Franc's family in Brazil who were all on standby anxiously awaiting to hear from us. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. So renew your passports, pack your bags and we'll see you in Brazil!
