It has come to our attention that the incorrect day was printed on the wedding invitations. We are getting married on: Friday, December 7, 2018 Can't wait to see you all there!
On a cold, rainy night in September 2008, Dina could not bring herself to trek into downtown New Haven with her roommates, so she figured she'd see what was going on around campus. She texted her friend Jack from Orientation and he said "Come on down, we're having a party!". Dina and Jack won game after game in Beer Pong-- until Matt started playing. Losing and frustrated (and having heard that Matt thought she was cute), Dina said, "if you really thought I was cute, then you'd miss this shot!", and so Matt threw the ball at the wall. After that they were inseparable. On November thirteenth, Matt asked Dina to be his girlfriend at her first Bruins game, and the rest is history!
.... and keep waiting for NINE YEARS! And for those of you who don't know this, that's how long Dina waited before Matt popped the question. Which he finally did in December 2017. Every year Matt and Dina do their best to make it to the Rockefeller Christmas Tree in New York City. Call her crazy, but New York at Christmas is Dina's absolute favorite place in the world, and Matt had decided years ago that when he proposed it would be in front of the tree. In typical fashion Matt waited until just after Thanksgiving to begin the search for the perfect ring in time to propose on their annual trip on December 23rd. The perfect ring required a custom designer who Matt worked with to finalize a design that fit all of Dina's criteria. Then in mid-December he told Dina he had to go into work unexpectedly on his day off (which was not too unbelievable given his crazy work schedule). He waited until after she left for work and then hopped in the car to make the four hour trip to New York to ask Dina's parents (Charlie and Patti) for her hand. He coordinated with Dina's sister Jaclyn to make sure that they were all home at the dinner table when he strolled in with a bottle of Charlie's favorite whisky, and said "Well, I bet you can guess why I'm here". He almost gave Dina's mom a heart attack! Patti said, "Finally!", and Charlie said, "I may make you wait a few years for the answer!" When Matt got back to their apartment in Boston around 11:30 that night, Dina didn't think twice of it (after all it was a Monday night Pats game, so that was a pretty typical time for him to get home from work). Who knew working at NESN would provide the perfect alibi! Once he got the green light he added the finishing touches to this proposal by buying tickets to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and worked out a plan to have Jaclyn (who is also a professional photographer) be at Rockefeller to capture the big moment.
The ring was supposed to arrive back from the designer in Boston on December 22nd, the very same day they were leaving for New York. And even as Dina was on her way home from work so they could get on the road, the ring still hadn't arrived. So Matt improvised. He told Dina he had to get the oil changed. And then after an hour passed he told her the line was so crazy he had to find somewhere else. And after another hour passed he told Dina that the other place he usually goes to was closed so he was at a third place, but that they were taking him next. Really Matt was at a bar in Cambridge waiting for the ring to arrive at his Dad's office. At this point his Dad had even offered to drive the ring to New York himself the next day! Fortunately it made it there just in time (and they avoided a TON of traffic)! He gave her the tickets to the Christmas Spectacular that night when they arrived at her parents (needless to say she was ecstatic!) and everything was back on track. But Jaclyn who was about 5 months pregnant at this point was also very sick. And it was pouring (that's right, pouring rain on December 23rd in New York) and Jaclyn's doctor said there was no way she was taking a train to the city to stand in Rockefeller in the pouring rain. Thankfully Dina was used to asking random strangers to take their picture in front of the tree, and so she didn't think twice about it when she asked a nice looking young man if he could do just that. I'm not sure who was more surprised, Dina or the nice stranger, when instead of posing for a picture Matt got down on one knee! Needless to say Dina said "Yes!" And the photographer said, "I can't believe you did that to me bro!", and Dina said "But did you get it!!???" He did. After all that it was the perfect proposal. They even got to tell most of Dina's family in person on Christmas Eve the next day!
