It all began at Auburn University when Matt and Angie happened to be seated next to each other on the first day of English class. Matt couldn't help but notice that Angie's gaze lingered for a moment while passing back the attendance book. After class lunch plans were eventually made, which led to study "dates" at Matt's fraternity house when Angie found out he had a puppy. After several Greek social functions and Auburn football games, Angie and Matt found themselves spending almost everyday together. They decided to make it "official" at Waffle House (a respectable establishment in Auburn, AL).

Matt raised suspicion by asking Angie to "keep her schedule open" for an entire Saturday, as he had secretly planned a day full of activities. It began at their favorite restaurant for lunch downtown, followed by a visit to a local art museum (one of their favorite things to do) and a movie at a local historic theatre. Upon returning home without a ring, Angie wondered if her suspicions were unfounded. Matt then suggested they take their dog Kya (the aforementioned puppy) on her evening walk. Around sunset, they ended up at a lake view gazebo, where Matt got down on one knee. To this day, Matt cannot recall exactly what he said in the moment. For her part, Angie only remembers saying YES!
