Gordon and Sam met in 2020 when she was a call center agent and he worked in the collections department at Vanderbilt Mortgage. Sam would catch him every now and then on the phone when transferring a call over to his team, and every time he answered, he sounded bored. One day, Sam decided to point this out in a jokingly sarcastic manner which caught Gordon's attention as it was a bit off-script from a normal transfer. He messaged her directly and told her that he was still laughing about the sass she gave him on the phone. They continued messaging back and forth before Sam's department was allowed to work back in office (because COVID, of course) and that's when she managed to find his desk and introduce herself formally. Sam has always claimed that when she met him, something inside her said, "This guy is going to be my friend." They continued to chat, hung out in their mutual friend group, and then started hanging out on weekends in the mountains or playing card games at Gordon's apartment. The rest is history. Gordon's sincere and thoughtful effort along with Sam's caring, genuine nature made it easy for them to decide that pursuing a relationship would be worthwhile and rewarding. When Gordon asked, "Can I be your boyfriend?" Sam's response was, "You could be my husband." Foreshadowing? Who knows. Let's just get married!!!
