Buritaca beach is a great beach to relax, walk or read a book. However, bear in mind that the sea is rough. While it is possible to paddle and dip your feet in the water swimming is not safe. If you want to swim, buritaca river or your hotel's swimming pool are better options
Parque Tayrona is the top attraction in the area. There are several entrances: Neguanje (from Neguanje can take speedboats to Playa Cristal, Cinto, Wachaquita), Zaino (a fun relatively easy hike) and Bahia Concha. Tayrona has several beaches which you can access by car or boat, nearer Santa Marta, some are OK for swimming, and have hotels. o The Zaino entrance to the park is only for access on foot, or donkey. 2-3 hours walk into beaches (one of which is for swimming). Very beautiful. 1 posh expensive eco-hotel, otherwise its hammocks, tents, or very, very basic cabañas (this is to avoid overdevelopment. Can be a daytrip, but ideally recommend 2-3 days. Lodging near the park is available (both upmarket and budget options) Upmarket options close to the park include Casa Barlovento, Casa Tayrona los Naranjos and Villa Maria
