Coming into town early or staying through Sunday? Mary Queen, where we'll be married on Saturday, has daily Masses at 8:30 AM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and at 6:30 AM Wednesday. Sunday Masses are at 7:30, 9:30, 11:30 AM, and 5:30 PM.
Baseball fans may want to check out the Astros team that captured the heart of Houston during Hurricane Harvey. Minute Maid Park is a staple of downtown. Astros have two series there in close proximity to the wedding: May 23 at 7:10 pm—Chicago White Sox; May 24 at 7:10 pm—Boston Red Sox; May 26 at 1:10 pm—Boston Red Sox.
Any beer fans wanting to try the local brews of Houston? The city has plenty of wonderful craft breweries but none more famous (or older) than Saint Arnold. Inside, the brewery holds a large, Bavarian-style Beer Hall. Outside, there's a Beer Garden & Restaurant, so patrons can enjoy the spring breeze with a Spring Bock. The Beer Hall is open Saturday, 11:00 AM–4:00 PM, and the Beer Garden is open Sunday–Wednesday, 11:00 AM–10:00 PM and Thursday–Saturday 11:00 AM–11:00 PM. Tours of the brewery are offered every day at 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, and 7:00 PM.
For a coastal excursion, make your way down to Galveston. Strand Street is the main street in the city with shops, food, and a confectionary that makes taffy the old-fashioned way. Strand Street makes a good first stop before you hit the beach. For convenience, download the Pay By Phone app ahead of time to make parking a breeze! https://www.paybyphone.com/locations/galveston
Galveston Beach and Seawall Boulevard make for a relaxing afternoon. There is street parking all along the seawall and a number of private beaches with paid parking. For convenience, download the Pay By Phone app ahead of time to make parking a breeze! https://www.paybyphone.com/locations/galveston
If you find yourself hungry on the Galveston Seawall, stop into Gaidos for for a sit-down lunch of fresh fish and cool air. Gaidos provides an upscale escape from the sand and heat and is sure to serve up the (second) best meal you'll have our wedding weekend.
Houston, we have a problem. . . . There's just too much to do in this city! For the STEM minded, Space Center Houston, home to NASA Johnson Space Center, will be a fun outing. The Space Center is open weekdays 10:00 AM–5:00 PM and weekends 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
