While we would have loved to fill the weekend full of events, the pandemic made it extra difficult to plan. Instead of a welcome party or a post-wedding brunch, we hope you use that time to explore the Ithaca area with your loved ones. Please check out the Things To Do section of our website for some ideas. We especially love the gorges and the Ithaca Farmer's Market on Saturdays and Sundays!
As freshmen at Ithaca College, Danny lived in the East Tower and Maggie lived in the West Tower on campus. We had many mutual friends and always ended up hanging out at the same places. Danny had a very apparent crush on Maggie and even told his roommate that he was going to marry Maggie one day. Maggie thought of Danny as a friend but told her girlfriends he was a catch and would make someone very happy one day.
We were both single and living in the NYC area. Danny picked up the phone (which was unheard of in the year 2015) and called Maggie to see if she wanted to catch up. We met two separate times but it wasn’t totally clear (to Maggie) if it was only friendly or something more. One night, Danny invited Maggie to meet him and his coworkers to see live music at Arlene’s Grocery in the Lower East Side. We had so much fun together and realized we have always been drawn to each other throughout the years. At the end of the summer, Maggie left for a road trip through California with friends but when she returned she immediately asked Danny to be her boyfriend.
It was our four year anniversary and we were leaving for a vacation to Spain a few days later. Danny made reservations for dinner at a restaurant in Liberty State Park to celebrate our anniversary. We spent a lot of time in Liberty State Park while living in Jersey City, walking, biking and playing fetch with our dog, Graeleigh. Before dinner, Danny received a phone call from “Tim,” a family friend who lives near the Park. Maggie overheard that Tim had hockey tickets for Danny and they arranged to meet in Liberty State Park before dinner to get the tickets. When we arrived at Liberty State Park, the sun was setting and we walked around looking for Tim. As we entered the Flag Plaza overlooking the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan (and Maggie offered to go back to the car because she was wearing heels), Danny told Maggie that there were no tickets. He then got down on one knee, Maggie said ‘Yes!’, and a photographer captured that special moment forever. It turns out that “Tim” on the phone was actually Doug, Danny’s brother, who deserves an Oscar for his performance. We are so happy we get to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. Hope to see you in Ithaca!
