He asked, she said yes!

Skylar and I met in August of 2020, when the world was still working through the pandemic. We were both in masks, so it was hard to see what he looked like and even harder to have a conversation. We worked together for three months before I cracked the code that is Skylar Kersey. He came to the Media Center during my daily mid-morning snack of yogurt and cheese sticks. He came up to me and asked what I had in my hand and I said something very intelligent along the lines of “Oh it’s yogurt” to which he said “No your other hand.” Again, my intelligence took over and I said “It’s cheese!” It was at this moment I learned of Skylar Kersey’s love of cheese in its various forms and the rest is history from there!

Our first date was spent at the house of our friends, the Smiths. We spent the afternoon and evening watching the Georgia/Tennessee game and the Alabama/LSU game. We had a great time together and I was on cloud nine. And didn’t find out until our third date (which I also didn’t know was a date) that that had in fact been our first date.

Skylar’s family came over and we all decorated the Christmas tree and then spent time playing a trivia game Renzie made for her gifted class. Or so I thought. All the questions were trivia about the Kersey family and each correct answer earned you some cold hard cash. After Renzie and Skylar won $50 each for answering their questions correctly, I decided to choose one from the same row they chose, cause hey, I like free money! My question: Who is the newest member of the family? I thought “He’s not doing this right now, there’s no way he’s doing this right now,” and said Taino (the dog) was the newest member of the family. Well I was wrong on two counts. It turns out that the twins came along after Taino and Skylar was in fact proposing right then and there, so I was the newest member of the family! After I read my card and answered incorrectly, the kids all held up signs that read “Will you officially be our aunt Mare” and after prompting from Skylar’s sister I turned around to see my very best friend on one knee in front of the Christmas tree. After telling me how long he’d had the ring, and asking me if I wanted to marry him, I very happily said yes and now it’s time to put Kersey on my Jersey!
