We met on a dating app in DC called "The League" - miracles do happen, right? We were both so hesitant to sign up for an app but still thank God that we did! We chatted on the app about family, pancake traditions and fantasy football for about a week before Robbie (FINALLY) made his move and asked Mary on a date. What was supposed to be meeting up for a quick drink that night turned into us having an almost three-hour dinner because we had so much in common and so much to talk about – side note: Robbie is still salty about Mary’s dinner order (ask at the wedding for a fun story). Our second date was ten hours of laughs, deep conversations, and the occasional awkward moment (not enough to scare each other . . . yet), and that's when we each knew we had met our match.
Robbie had the day of the proposal planned to a tee (absolutely no one who knows him well is surprised by this). We stopped at three different locations that represented “firsts” in our relationship - the restaurant where we had our (three-hour) first date, the place where we had our first kiss, and the Lincoln Memorial where we decided to make our relationship official (because it’s not official until it’s Facebook official, right?). At each place, we read a letter that Robbie had written and reminisced fondly about each step in our relationship. The Library of Congress was our final stop. Robbie had arranged a private tour with someone he knows there and at the end of our amazing tour, our guide took us out on the balcony and then conveniently stepped aside to "use the restroom". We had the balcony to ourselves, complete with one of the most gorgeous views of the city! Robbie had one last letter that he wanted to read out loud – with quivering lip and all – it ended with “will you marry me”? Through snot and tears, Mary said, “what took you so long?” and they hugged . . . and stuff. Little did Mary know that the surprises had really just begun. When they arrived back at Mary’s house and walked inside, both Mary and Robbie’s immediate families were there waiting to get the party started. Soon after, friends from all over (shout-out to those who traveled from Utah, Colorado, Texas, Florida, and New York!) arrived to celebrate. Those who couldn’t attend sent videos to share their love from afar. The entire day was so full of love – we both feel incredibly blessed and grateful to have such dedicated and thoughtful people in our lives! From the start, this relationship has undoubtedly been a gift from God. He has continually shown His favor on us, and we can't wait to see what He has in store for us as a newly married couple!
