Now and for always

The funny thing about marriage is that you won't really understand what it is until you are in it. The one thing I do know is that God puts people in our lives who support and challenge us. And if marriage is supposed to bring you and your spouse closer to God then I can't imagine anyone else. Josh is the most kind and gentle man I know. He is the bravest, strongest, man I know, and the most willing to take charge and responsibility of any situation. He is a man of action and deep contemplation. He not only holds himself to a higher standard, but holds me accountable as well. Josh pushes me to make the tough decisions we know are right, yet he stands by no matter the fallout. The sky's the limit and together we will try to find the edge.

I've heard friends of mine use the phrase, "When you know you know." I guess that is true in a sense, but that always felt a bit circular to me and not all that helpful. The medievals had this idea they called 'fittingness' which described two things whose natures were compatible in some way. It didn't mean that they simply felt right or that some person had a gut feeling that they worked together, it meant that the essences of these two things were such that it was good for them to be together. That might seem overly intellectual to some, but I don't think so. Mary and I have been friends for a long time, and the more I got to know her, the more I talked to her, laughed with her, opened up to her, the more I knew that she and I fit together. Life is easy with her. We have gone on enough adventures and tackled enough challenges for me to know that she is the one for me. She has already been with me through good times and bad, and she makes the good better, and the bad easier. God has truly blessed me with the best friend I could ever find, and soon the most perfect bride.
