No! Book for whatever schedule works best for you. We just hope you can join us for the ceremony and dinner!
You’ll need to fly to St Thomas (STT), and then take a ferry to St John. There are several ferries that run throughout the day. See the travel page for a link to the ferry schedules.
We’ve added some hotel options at several price points to the travel page. Jamie and I will be staying at the Wharfside Village Hotel. There are also many rentals on St John as well, if that’s your preference. You can check out AirBnB or VRBO.
There are open-air safari taxis everywhere in Cruz Bay, and at major beaches. Keep in mind that taxis charge by the person. I also suggest if you use taxis to get around, that you coordinate your return when dropped off. You can also rent a car. Make sure it has 4-wheel drive…the hills in St John are no joke! There are a couple of rental options on the travel page, but there are many car rental companies, and most will meet you with your rental at the ferry dock when you arrive. Remember that they drive on the left side of the road in St John. If you plan to rent a jeep, make sure to make reservations early. They book up quickly!
There are so many great options! Breakfast - Grab and Go You really can’t beat St John Provisions. This little shop serves up amazing coffees, smoothies, and freshly made pastries. Don’t miss this one! Downtown sips also has great coffee. Breakfast - Sit Down High Tide, Cruz Bay landing, Sun Dog Cafe, and the Inn at Tamarind Court all offer a lovely breakfast option with all the favorites. Lunch - Beach Trunk, Cinnamon, and Maho all have food trucks, serving a variety of options and drinks! Try the frozen painkiller at Cinnamon Beach! Lunch - Cruz Bay North Shore Deli and Sam & Jack’s both offer excellent sandwiches and salads. Dinner - Burgers & Beer Tap and Still and St John Brewers Dinner - Pizza Lovango Rum Bar has thin crust pizza, rum cocktails and music on the porch most evenings. Dinner - Mexican Lime Inn, Greengo’s or Margarita Phil’s Dinner - Steak Dave & Jerry’s Island Steakhouse Dinner - Italian Extra Virgin is one of the top restaurants in St John. There’s also Cafe Roma. Dinner - Sushi The Longboard. Excellent sushi, poke bowls, and west coast style tacos. Worth the Drive Skinny Legs in Coral Bay (the West end of St John) is a true classic beach bar.
Make sure to bring reef safe (zinc based) sunscreen and use it! You might also want some bug spray if you plan to stay on the beaches later in the afternoon. Drink lots of water. You’ll see lots of feral chickens around, and maybe even a donkey, goat, iguana or peacock! Let us know your travel plans when you make them. It will help us coordinate with everyone. St John is on “island time.” Relax, be patient, and enjoy the surroundings!
Be comfortable! I would suggest lightweight and comfortable fabrics. Feel free to go barefoot for the ceremony if you like. The colors for the wedding are neutrals and beachy tones. We’re trying to stay away from bright colors.
No. The USVI are a United States territory, so no passport is needed. However, you may want to bring your passport if you are interested in checking out the nearby British Virgin Islands (the Baths at Virgin Gorda are spectacular, or visit the world famous Soggy Dollar Bar for a painkiller in Jost Van Dyke.) You will have to go through customs for your return flight, and some people think a passport helps to expedite the process. We’ve never had a problem with just our enhanced driver’s license.
