Hers: On February 5th 2021 Jack and I decided our first date should be sushi. By the time February 6th at 3PM rolled around it was all I could think about…. The sushi. I had somehow gotten it into my head that our plans would fall through, but I had a date with a tuna roll either way, so I ordered delivery. Five minutes after my sushi arrived Jack texted me to make sure we were still on for dinner. I would like to say that as I stowed my order in the fridge and headed out for my second sushi dinner of the night I had no idea I was walking to meet the love of my life. But the truth is, I did know. I knew from the second I started talking to Jack that this was something special, something different. In fact, I knew this so confidently that it only ~minorly~ shook my confidence when Jack didn’t kiss me after our first date, or for almost our entire second date. I’ll forgive him that and count myself lucky that three+ years later I’d order sushi a dozen times in a night if it meant I got to share it with him. His: In a world of dating apps, I like to claim that we met because we were neighbors (because we were). On our first date, Mary texted me her address to pick her up only to learn that she lived on the same street as me. When she got into my car (what was she thinking?), I was met with a smile that I knew I would know forever. Mary was quickly introduced to the family when we unknowingly ran into my brother and sister-in-law at the restaurant of our first date. After what felt like the best first date of my life, I thought it was also our last when she insisted she would walk home instead of letting me drive her. She did eventually let me give her a ride home, and I remember mumbling a few F-bombs to myself after she got out of the car because I thought it would be the last time I saw her. Unbeknownst to me, our second date would be watching the Super Bowl together the next day…..the rest is history.
