Maid of Honor
Growing up, Mary always wanted to be just like her older sister Susan. Looking back, it turned out to be a pretty good life strategy! Susan consistently went above and beyond what average sister duties would entail to make Mary feel included and loved growing up. She did this even when it meant opening up her bedroom door to let Mary in on barbie time with the cool girls Susan hung out with, driving Mary around shopping in Susan's old Honda passport, or sacrificing the whole weekend away from her now husband Tom to make sure Mary was appropriately beautified for the high school prom. Mary couldn't ask for a better maid of honor by her side as she marries Brian!
Best Man
Brian and Connor (represented here by his much cuter dog Asher) have been friends since freshman year at Penn State, and have stayed in touch ever since. Connor was the kid with the giant TV, the GameCube, and the best speakers in the dorm. Since the days of playing Super Smash Bros. until 4 AM on a Thursday, Brian and Connor remained close during their college years and both independently moved to Norfolk, VA post-graduation. While their friendship still mainly consists of video games and Penn State football, Brian feels honored to have Connor with him as his Best Man.
Bridesmaid
Ever since Mary and Alissa were randomly selected to share a small dorm room together, and on day one of meeting as Alissa arranged the clothes in her dresser she announced "Oh, and by the way I've got tuberculosis" they were off to a great start as long-time friends. Alissa is the best kind of friend a girl can have because she's sensible and always someone you can count on, but also the type of person who's the first to shout yes for any new adventure.
Groomsman
Caleb (who is now quite a bit older and only slightly more mature than he is pictured here) is another Penn Stater that Brian met in college, and if it were not for his crippling fear of public speaking he may very well have been shared Best Man duties with Connor. Caleb's forthright sense of humor and sincerity has kept him among Brian's best friends for years, and Brian is thrilled to have him by his side.
Bridesmaid
Mary and Emma met through Mary's brother, and Emma's now husband, Robert. Over the past couple of years Mary and Emma have bonded over their mutual love of Jesus, cute cats, Orangetheory workouts, and small pleasures such as Hobby Lobby shopping. Along with Brian, Emma has shared responsibility in significantly improving the food menu that Mary and Robert used to eat while on camping trips.
Groomsman
Being less than 2 years older than Mary, Robert and Mary grew up doing many of the same things together. From running, swimming, playing music at Mass, riding their bikes around the neighborhood as kids to camping and cross country trekking to different National Parks as adults, they've always been close. From the start Brian and Robert were able to share their mutual enjoyment of camping trips, good food and debates about most anything.
Bridesmaid
Mary and Sarah met through John, Mary's oldest brother and Sarah's now husband. Sarah was a winner from the start in Mary's eyes when John would ask, "Sarah, what do you want to watch?" and Sarah responded, "What does Mary want to watch?" Sarah is an incredibly thoughtful human, and is an all around great friend to have whether you're needing to delve into some deep conversations about life or just enjoy a wine night out.
Groomsman
John is Mary's older brother, the first born of the Deis clan. Being 8 years older than her, Mary has fond memories of John 'moon-walking' her around the house, educating her on why washing your hands after using the bathroom is a good thing, holding her by the ankles above the toilet pretending to almost drop her in, and to this day being the only person able to make her break her serious face during a cross country race by offering her $10 if she won. John and Brian are both big fans of movie trivia, so upon their first meeting a contest was quick to ensue and needless to say Brian passed the test. Though they're all adults now, John and Mary are similar in their silliness and Brian is fond of both of them for it.
Bridesmaid
Mary and Lindsey met the first week of college and bonded over the mile and 1 kilometer repeats that were a staple of their cross country team's training. Lindsey, aka Linds is one of the only people in Mary's life to successfully and affectionately call Mary "Mare." The great thing about Lindsey is though she is extremely loyal and hardworking, she also knows how to have a classy good time, a quality the whole world could use more of!
Groomsman
Christian is yet another Penn State guy joining the bachelor party, and the only one to major in Mechanical Engineering with Brian and take many of the same classes with him. The two struggled through many engineering study sessions (a phrase which here means “a mad panic to impart the sum total of knowledge of Dynamic Systems in roughly 7 hours the night before the exam”), enjoyed many more parties and bar crawls, and languished through two years too many working for the same company as both of their first jobs out of college. Brian is thrilled to have not only Christian’s calm demeanor and attitude to help Brian get through the big day, but also his ability to laugh in the face of utter despair which (hopefully) won’t actually be needed the day of.
Bridesmaid
Juliana was literally the first person Mary met at Lynchburg College, which was during move-in. Juliana's family was sitting in the hall as Juliana's room was an explosion, but they all looked like they were having a grand time. That demonstrated a true lesson about Juliana, which is that her laugh is contagious and no matter what the situation she is talented at making it lighthearted and fun. Mary and Juliana both studied Nursing and Spanish so their paths crossed frequently throughout their college careers.
Groomsman
Mike (who did not submit a picture for this website in time and thus had a picture chosen for him) is Brian’s friend from his Scouting days, and that somehow makes him only the third nerdiest guy on this list. Mike has been a true friend for many years, and is one of the people Brian always makes sure to hang out with when he’s back in Pittsburgh. It’s Mike’s absurd sense of humor combined with an incredibly reliable personality that has Brian excited to have Mike with him as a groomsman.
Bridesmaid
Don’t let the last name fool you, Brian’s younger sister is a Halligan through and through. While they may have both attempted to murder the other multiple times throughout their childhood, the two Halligan kids have matured enough to care about one another’s well-being and happiness (most of the time). Erin was seemingly happier than Brian when he told her his plans to propose to Mary, and she is ecstatic to finally gain that sister her parents refused to give her. PS: Erin this is the photo that gets chosen for you when you tell Mary that you’re going to send her a picture and then forget to do so.
Groomsman
Kyle and Brian have known each other since 1996, neither of them remember it but that’s the year Brian’s parents told him that they met. It’s been a wild ride ever since, with innumerable New Year’s Eve parties, several vacations, and one questionable St. Patrick’s Day festivities behind them, Brian is honored to have one of his oldest friends by his side on his wedding day.
