At the corner of Maple Lane and Deanies Alley you might just find your next bizarre treasure. The vendors may shift, but we can always count on a flea market to be a paradise for that-thing-you-never-knew-you-needed! From vintage records to works by local artists, there’s always something new to find!
Fortunately, if the flea market isn’t for you, all of Woodstock is a gem and you can wander around in and out of all sorts of vibrant and fun shops! With an abundance of art shops, galleries, apparel, curiosities, and more, it’s a fabulous way to pass a morning! Some of our favorite shops are: Bread Alone The Garden Cafe Candlestock ... and definitely check out the weekly drum circle on Sunday from 4-6pm if you're in town!
If you're spending the weekend, we recommend checking out Nirvana, a fantastic Indian restaurant that recently opened in Woodstock. We recommend the Pani Puri, the Chana Jalfrezi & Mushrooms, and rounding it out with the Gulab Jumun for dessert!
Working to save the native hemlocks, and host to an apiary, The Thorn Preserve Catskill Center has gorgeous views of the surrounding hills and mountains, and educational resources for those interested in learning more about conservation in the Catskills!
A popular spot close to downtown Woodstock, this five-mile out-and-back trail takes you to the top of Overlook Mountain, which, as you can tell by the name, boasts breathtaking views! The trail is a small gravel road that goes up the whole mountain—pro: well maintained / con: maybe you want a well-worn forest trail?
On the way to and from Kingston, you’ll pass the beautiful Ashokan Reservoir, which supplies 40% of NYC’s drinking water & bonus: it’s gorgeous. While you can’t get into the water (because, ew, we’re going to drink that), there’s a gorgeous trail covering almost the entire circumference! The Reservoir is big, so we’d recommend treating the trail as an out-and-back so you don’t get stuck half way around!
Kingston, the original capital of New York, is a fabulous town full of bookshops, cafes and restaurants, fun shops, and art and it sits right on the Hudson! There’s plenty to do just walking around both the current downtown and the historic downtown—whether you want a quiet morning alongside the river or some excellent people watching at the Farmer’s Market or neighborhood regular morning coffee spot, spending a few days in Kingston is such a treat! We recommend: Moonburger (plant-based drive-through) Rosie's General Store Rough Draft Bar and Books LOLA Pizza Sweet Maresas (vegan bakery and coffee shop)
The Kingston Farmers Market is a gorgeous scene featuring, of course, the wares of several local farmers, but there’s always some great buskers, interesting prepared food, beautiful flowers and more. Think of it as the Saturday morning Kingston town hall, and try the grapes!
Also in the area is the charming town of Hudson, NY. While there's a ton of great shopping and cafes in town, we recommend checking out the massive Hudson Antique Warehouse to find some truly unique items! Wandering the extensive taxidermy section of the market is particularly unsettling, if you're into that kind of thing.
