Our home, sweet home. This is the best place, in our opinion, to go on a walk and stop into a cute lunch spot like Garnett's or Kuba Kuba, or a shop like Na Nin (Shelby's fave) or Small Friends Books, or grab a glass of wine at Celladora (best selection) or Jardin.
A lovely street with charming shopping and restaurants. Check out Shelf Life Bookstore (formerly known as Chop Suey), Plan 9 for its amazing record collection, Ashby for great vintage, Sugar and Twine for coffee, and World of Mirth for fun toys. Shelby and her mom and brother love For the Love of Chocolate for a sweet treat :)
Church Hill is a gorgeous, historic neighborhood across town. Check out Dear Neighbor for shopping, Union Market for lunch, Fat Rabbit for desserts, Proper Pie for sweet and savory pies. Cobra Burger, Sub Rosa, and The Roosevelt are in this neighborhood - more amazing restaurants here include Alewife and Grisette.
Brewery Town USA: The Veil, Vasen, Three Notch'd, Ardent, Star Hill, Hardywood, Main Line are all in this neighborhood. Tang and Biscuit, Circuit, and Bingo Beer Co. all have games to accompany your beverages. If you're staying at the Courtyard Marriott hotel block, you'll be right there.
Broad Street has some great shopping - Someday, Jolene, 68 Home, Circle Thrift, Mod & Soul, and more. Check out Lift Coffee Shop - this is where you could find Shelby 90% of the time during grad school. This is where Quirk Hotel is (best rooftop!), and Linden Row (one of our hotel blocks) is also right nearby. Common House (a co-working and community space) is right there too - Byrdie's is a delicious oyster bar open to everyone on the street level. Martin and Shelby's (and several of our guest's!) grad school is a few blocks over :)
Our favorite Richmond restaurant! Get the braised fennel, and be prepared for a massive plate of pasta. Call for a reservation to be safe.
A Richmond staple - incredible Greek restaurant. Get the flaming cheese :) You can get a reservation online or walk in, which we usually do. You can grab a drink and shop around at their space next door while you wait. Check out Stella's Market too - there are multiple locations across the city. Also - Martin's favorite clothing store, Homme, is right there too.
A fabulous French restaurant in the heart of Carytown. Get some steak frites or croque monsieur and then walk around Cary Street for a lovely afternoon.
Joe's Inn is a Richmond classic with comfort diner food. We love to go for breakfast, and their Greek spaghetti is delicious for din. We frequent Shields Market across the street as we live a block away.
A restaurant in Church Hill with a phenomenal menu - you can't go wrong!
Nationally recognized bakery with THE most delicious bread and pastries. Get there early as they sell out! Then wander around Church Hill for a lovely morning.
One of our favorite spots in Richmond - great for both brunch and late night drinks.
Best fine dining in Richmond - get a reservation NOW as they book out months in advance.
Great sushi and fun drinks - amazing options here.
Best Thai in Richmond - get the pineapple fried rice or the pad see ew.
Our favorite burgers in the entire world and we stand by that.
Amazing Jewish deli for one of the best breakfasts in Richmond - you'll likely have to wait a bit for a table but trust us when we say it is worth it.
Delicious homemade biscuits - one of our favorite breakfasts in the Fan.
Favorite pizza in the city, right in our neighborhood - we eat this an astonishing amount. Shelby gets a white pizza with pancetta and Martin gets a red pizza with basil, capers, and anchovies. Take your pies over to Scuffletown for one of our favorite Richmond pasttimes :)
A Richmond coffee staple. There are a few locations around the city.
Another Richmond coffee staple with multiple locations across the city.
An extremely historic hotel in Richmond. Grab a drink at Lemaire and admire the regal space.
Beautiful hotel with the best rooftop in the city. You can get dinner at the restaurant, and grab drinks in the lobby or at the rooftop bar. They have an art gallery, a coffee shop, and a cute store as well.
An adorable, cozy park in our neighborhood - grab a cone from Scoop, a pastry from Idle Hands, or a pizza from 8 1/2 and make your way over.
Our favorite hike (and bike) in Richmond right on the James River. Ham loves it :)
A look at Richmond history - despite being a cemetery, it's a great place to go on a long walk.
Right off Carytown, another great place to walk and sit.
Our wedding venue! Most of the galleries (not all!) won't be available during the wedding - take a swing by during their normal hours for a truly incredible art collection. On Friday afternoons in the summer, they have a happy hour, which we love to frequent and highly recommend! A great way to start the party before the welcome event :)
A truly special architecture and design museum right in the Fan, on Monument Avenue (which you'll notice the monuments have been removed from!).
If you're interested in Richmond history - this is the place for you!
