(All museums in Scotland are free!)

Edinburgh

Amongst its many attractions are the Seat of the Scottish Government, Hollyroodhouse (the Queen's Scottish residence), and the iconic Edinburgh Castle, to name a few. The Medieval Old Town is picturesque and full of history. Harry Potter fans can visit the Elephant House Cafe where J.K. Rowling wrote the famous books.

The annual festival takes place from August 6th - 28th in Edinburgh's six major theaters and concert halls with music, theater, opera, and dance. At the same time, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes place on the Castle Esplanade and is a celebration of the skills and talents of military bands and display teams from the British Armed Forces.

Loch Lomond

For the more outdoorsy guests, Loch Lomond, to the north of Glasgow, is one of Scotland's finest boating and water sport venues. Second in size to Loch Ness but unfortunately no mythical creature. Situated on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond is Ben Lomond, the most southern of the 282 Munros (mountain ranges) in Scotland. Alternatively, you can join the West Highland Way, a trail which runs from Milngavie in the north of Glasgow to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands (96 miles long).
