Cuenca is a very safe city, and we highly recommend walking through the historic center to fully enjoy its charm. However, we advise against walking alone at night or using your phone in the open while on the street. It is safe to take taxis from the street and explore the city on foot. The locals are friendly and always willing to help. You will also find a large international community, especially many Americans, who have chosen to make Cuenca their home.
Uber app doenst work in Cuenca. However you can download an app called AzuTaxi (works similarly to uber) or take taxis on the street.
Most countries do not need a visa to enter Ecuador for tourism purposes. However, we recommend checking with your local Ecuadorian embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date information. Starting this year, Ecuadorian authorities are requiring a yellow fever vaccination certificate for travelers coming from or who have recently visited certain countries. The countries that require the yellow fever certificate include: Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and Brazil.
