Marta and Darris met at church in 2014. On one of the nights Marta went to the college group it just so happened that Darris led worship. The first thing Marta thought was "oh crap." She immediately felt drawn to Darris but was resistant to the idea of having feelings for a guy. She had just moved to Turlock and wanted to focus on herself. Meeting Darris was not part of the plan. Darris grew up in Turlock and had a group of close friends that he spent a lot of time with. After returning from a mission trip to Australia he wasn't really looking for a relationship but was just trying to focus on finishing school. Over the next year Darris and Marta served on the college leadership team together and became friends. Darris got to know Marta and thought she was funny and nice. Marta enjoyed being around Darris and did everything she could spend time with him. On a Sunday morning Darris went to church and heard Marta sing and thought she had a beautiful voice and thought she looked pretty in her blue floral dress. Darris didn't share his feelings with Marta right away but eventually he told her how he felt. On July 15, 2015 he asked her to be his girlfriend.

On April 13, 2019 Darris convinced Marta to go on a day trip to Santa Cruz. Little did she know that he had more in store than just a day trip. He took her to Natural Bridges Beach and there he got down on one knee and proposed to her. Once she said yes their friends Ian and Mallory came out from behind their hiding spots and captured the entire moment. After all that excitement they drove back to Turlock where their friends and families were waiting to celebrate. After 6 years of being together, Darris and Marta are ready to take this next step.
