We first met when Marshall started grad school at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Cassandra had been there a year, and when Marshall arrived in 2009, it was...not love at first sight for her, because he had a weird-looking afro, a Led Zeppelin t-shirt (he found it in a dumpster), and torn-up jeans. Years later, in 2012, we fell fully into the love into which we had already been falling for months, maybe years, prior. We already spent most of our days together, laughed at the same things, enjoyed sitting and quietly reading together, and had bonded over the combined horrors of PhD coursework coupled with the stress of teaching. We are a team; there is nothing we cannot do together, and that includes uprooting and moving 36 hours across the country, helping our daughter Kayla through college, or just watching our pets play with new toys. Okay, that last one doesn't really require teamwork, but whatever.
