Marshall is so smooth. And maybe I’m a little gullible. We were home visiting family close to Christmas time. On the 21st we had an awesome morning (but we always do fun things together, so nothing seemed amiss from my perspective). We started with a trip to the Louisville Zoo to see the baby elephant Fitz. He was being so sweet and still nursing on his momma. Then we went to “Lights Under Louisville” to see the Christmas lights. Everything had already been so fun to kick off the holiday week. That evening, Marshall asked if I wanted to go to the walking bridge at Waterfront Park. The sun was down at this point so I was a little skeptical, but Marshall reminded me that it was lit up especially for the holidays. That was all the convincing it took. I dressed kind of casual. (I suspected nothing obviously, or I wouldn’t have gotten engaged in freakin’ Ugg boots, but anyways…). We walked all the way across to Indiana, and then made our way back up the ramp to cross back to Kentucky. At the top of the ramp, I was shocked to see Bryan and Chrissy. I thought, what luck?! And I asked them if they wanted to grab dinner with us. I could tell they were acting a little off, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. So we walked and talked. About 100ft later, we came up to Mike Miller! He was holding a picture of us, so my wheels started turning, but my mind hadn’t fully comprehended to be honest. But next…. There was Ken, all the way from Dallas. And I officially knew what was happening. I started bawling. Every 100’ or so, we’d pick up another friend or family member until we had a little congregation walking the bridge together. When we got to the end of the nearly mile round-trip, everyone flipped their signs over to reveal “will you marry me?” Marshall was so kind and sincere in his speech as he got down on one knee. I am so humbled even as I sit here and type this months later. I am honored to plan a wedding with the most thoughtful soul I’ve known.
