Our wedding will be at Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough, NH. The Castle, now owned by a non-profit preservation society, was first built in 1914 by a shoe tycoon. The mountain-top estate covers over 5,000 acres with the mansion sitting on top overlooking Lake Winnipesauke. Conor and I first visited Castle in the Clouds together in Spring 2019, and immediately loved everything about it. When we got engaged we knew it was our first choice for the wedding. The Lakes Region is such a wonderful place and has something for everyone. We can't wait to share it all with you for our special day.
We met using the superior, girls-message-first dating app, Bumble. For our first date, we went to Highland Kitchen in Somerville for "drinks" - unbeknownst to Emily, Conor's worst nightmare. Emily was leaving the next day for Colorado and planned to keep the night to one drink, but instead, we ended up sitting at the window bar for several hours laughing and getting to know each other over Tom Collins' (Emily's choice, Conor choked it down). We quickly learned we lived only a half-mile away from each other, and after our third date on Halloween weekend watching The Shining and eating sushi, we were pretty much inseparable.
After Conor spent months secretly going back and forth with the jeweler to lock down the perfect ring during Covid lockdown — not the easiest secret to keep while living and working home together 24/7 — he got the ring in early May 2021 and started planning how he was going to propose to Emily. For her 30th birthday, Conor gave Emily a Schitt's Creek themed card ("simply the best" — if you know, you know), and a promise of a secret birthday weekend away a few short weeks later. When the time came, Conor surprised Emily with a room at the Bay Point Inn on Lake Winnipeausake -- one of our favorite places, and where Emily grew up vacationing with her family. Never the best with surprises/secrets, Conor was a bit nervous all day, but tried to hide it the best he could — a note to future proposers, don't stuff a large ring box down the pocket of your tight jeans... After getting ready for dinner, Conor took Emily down to dock in front of the hotel, told her to turn around and got down on one knee. Then he said a lot of sweet lovey things, Emily said yes, we both cried and our adoring fans cheered — no really, what we didn't know to start was an entire al fresco dining restaurant at the hotel was watching along and helping us capture one of the best days of our life — they texted us the photos afterward! We celebrated with dinner at Giuseppe's and lots of emotion-filled FaceTimes to our close family and friends.
