Seth and I met while he was on a date with one of my Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters, so I wasn't going to pursue him (though he was very cute...and funny...and smart!). I went to dinner with some Kappas and Niki Pena, Matchmaker Extraordinaire, leaned in conspiratorially and said, "So, Chels. What's this I hear about you and Seth Money?" and I, feeling surprised and slightly guilty, said, "Um, nothing...what exactly did you hear?" She said, mischievously, "I heard you and Seth have been talking." Ok, maybe we had exchanged a few texts...and had ended up hanging out at a gathering that the aforementioned Kappa sister did not attend, but nothing untoward had happened! I said, guiltily, "How'd you hear that? I thought he and Kappa Sister were hanging out...?" It turns out Niki has known Seth since they were little. She is cousins with Andrew Jordan, Seth's now-groomsman and life-long best friend. She assured me that Kappa Sister and Seth were NOT exclusive and said he had been talking about me within their circle of friends more than he had mentioned Kappa Sister. Niki called him and told him that she totally approved and asked him to come hang out. We all ended up at the Sigma Nu house on Greek row and I played rousing game or two of beer pong with Seth (let's just say that all the Sigma Nus were chanting "LAST CUP CAMP-BELL!" by the end of the night!). Seth kept smiling at me and I kept smiling at him. Too soon, the night came to an end. Seth offered to walk me to the Kappa house. As we were walking, a light snow started falling and he wrapped me in his coat. We held hands and looked into each other's eyes. When we got to the Kappa house, we shared a magical, perfect first kiss on the front stoop. He left and I went inside, my heart a-flutter...and instantly had to tell the whole story to the 20 Kappas that had been watching from the window! Now, here we are, nine years later and I can't wait to share that same magical kiss with the man of my dreams on our wedding day.
Chelsea and I love going to vineyards together. One of our favorite vineyards sits on a slope high above the Shenandoah Valley, overlooking the rolling hills of green. The first time we went there, I knew it would be a great place to propose. The view from the veranda is breathtaking. So, when we visited the Shenandoah Valley for our anniversary, I made sure to stop by that vineyard again, this time with a ring to unveil. I disguised the box by hiding it in my jacket pocket, which was larger than the pockets in my pants. However, it was exceptionally warm that day, so Chelsea kept asking why I was so insistent on wearing a jacket. I kept having to reiterate that it was not actually as hot as it seemed, and that with a breeze, it was actually quite chilly (as I sweated profusely). The road up to the vineyard is a windy, dirt path that barely fits two-way traffic. When planning the proposal, I had hoped that there wouldn't be a large crowd at the vineyard that day as there are only a limited number of seats on the veranda and few isolated areas. Sure enough, as we approached, the small parking lot was littered with cars. A little bit of panic set in. I got lucky enough to find an isolated table near the veranda and we sat down with a couple glasses of wine. We made idle chatter for a few minutes as I tried to scope out the opportune opening in the conversation to pop the question. Though I had no idea what that opportune opening would be... I finally let her know that I had an anniversary gift for her and pulled the box out of my pocket and got down on one knee. "Will you marry me?" I asked. She smiled and cried and said yes. I slid the ring on her finger as people on the veranda nearby cheered. "Ask me again!" she said. "What?" I asked. "Ok..." I pulled the ring off and slid it back on her finger again, once more asking her to marry me. "Ask me again!" she said. After about the 4th time, someone on the veranda said, "How many times does this guy have to ask?"
