Sam and Jackson met in the fall of 2019 at a party in an apartment the Emory baseball players aspirationally referred to as “Muscle Beach.” Sam arrived with a friend who was interested in one of Jackson’s teammates, and when Sam asked to be introduced to someone, that same teammate grabbed Jackson by the collar of his shirt and pulled him across the room to meet the group of girls. Jackson still remembers exactly what Sam was wearing that night, a green-and-white striped top and jean shorts, and refuses to let her get rid of them. He has no idea what anyone else, including himself, was wearing. Although they enjoyed talking that first night, it wasn’t until a few months later, when Jackson learned that another teammate was interested in Sam, that he finally worked up the courage to ask her to study together. At the time, Sam was pre-med, and studying was quite literally all he ever saw her doing. During their study “date,” Jackson tried to defy the dumb finance-bro stereotype he knew he was up against, talking about his environmental science classes and working on a drawing for art history. The sketch turned out so poorly that his professor’s only comment was, “What happened?” Let’s just say Jackson was very distracted. As they talked, the conversation shifted into what Jackson would later realize was an interview. Sam asked a series of direct questions, including, “Do you see yourself getting married?”, “Do you do drugs?”, and Jackson’s favorite, “Do you want kids?” Fortunately, Jackson passed the screening and earned a second interview the very next day. The two have been inseparable ever since. In their earliest days together, Sam and Jackson often said they made a good team, a partnership built on complementary strengths. Over the next six years, their love story weathered a global pandemic, fourteen moves, four continents, six Disney parks, more than forty Jellycats, and far too many PowerPoint slides to count. Through it all, they leaned on each other for support, inspiration, and affection, growing a love that brings out the best in each of them and forms an equal, steady, and unbreakable partnership. They share a rare love, one that everyone who knows them recognizes in their mutual admiration and ease with one another. As they look toward their wedding day, Sam and Jackson feel immense gratitude for the winding and sometimes turbulent journeys that led them to one another, and for the friends and family who have lovingly stewarded their love every step of the way. They cannot wait to celebrate this next chapter surrounded by the people who made it possible.
