Casco Viejo is just steps from the hotel and one of our favorite parts of the city—think cobblestone streets, historic architecture, rooftop cocktails, and the best people-watching. You can easily spend the afternoon wandering around, popping into cafés, boutique shops, and charming little plazas. Be sure to check out Plaza de Francia and Las Bóvedas for local artisan finds and gorgeous views, and swing by Iglesia de San José to see its iconic golden altar. If you’re into history, the Panama Canal Museum is worth a visit too. Whether you’re grabbing coffee or catching the sunset from a rooftop, this neighborhood is such a vibe and truly captures the spirit of Panama.
This is a must-see while you're here. It’s only about 25 minutes from the hotel, and it's genuinely fascinating to watch massive ships pass through the locks in real time. There’s also a small museum and viewing deck that’s super easy to visit.
Experience the magic of the Panama Canal up close on this unforgettable partial transit. Cruise through the iconic Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks, glide across Miraflores Lake, pass under the Centenario Bridge, and wind through the scenic Gaillard Cut. This journey blends jaw-dropping engineering with lush tropical views and wraps up with a smooth transfer back to Marina Flamenco. Note: they only do this on weekends so you'll want to inquire for Sunday, Feb 22. :)
If you’re craving some sun and sea, we recommend renting a boat with a group and doing a half-day trip to Taboga Island—it’s only about 30 minutes from the city by water. The beach itself isn’t our favorite, but honestly, the boat ride makes it all worth it. It’s so much fun cruising over, swimming around the boat, and just relaxing out on the water. If you do decide to go ashore and want to grab lunch, check out Villa Caprichosa—it’s this magical hidden gem tucked away in the hills with seriously delicious food and the dreamiest setting. Definitely worth the little walk up! If you’re interested in booking, we always go through Panama Yachts—they’re super professional, fair with pricing, and they speak English, so you won’t have to stress about the details. You can reach them at info@ycyachts.com.
This was one of the highlights of our last trip—seriously so much fun. You’ll take a boat through Gatun Lake (part of the Panama Canal) and cruise past tiny islands where monkeys swing through the trees and sometimes even hop on the boat if you’re lucky. You might also spot crocodiles, tropical birds, and other wildlife along the way. It’s a quick trip from the city and such a fun way to see a little slice of jungle life without going too far. Great for couples, families, or really anyone who’s down for a little adventure. I linked the tourism website we’ve used before—they speak English, so you can easily book through their site or email them directly at info@tripspanama.com. This travel company also has a few other tours you might want to check out while you're in town!
Blue Adventures Panama offers a Private Quality Ocean Guide Service throughout the bay of Panama, as well as The offshore Islands of The Pearl Island Archipelago. One of the most special experiences you can have in Panama is visiting the Emberà community in Chagres National Park. You’ll travel by traditional canoe along the Chagres River, surrounded by rainforest, and spend the day immersed in Emberà culture—learning about their music, dance, handicrafts, and traditions. Along the way, you’ll discover the beauty of the jungle, from medicinal plants to exotic wildlife, and even take a refreshing swim at a waterfall. A traditional Emberà lunch of fried fish served on a banana leaf is included, making it such a memorable way to experience both Panama’s nature and its indigenous heritage.
If you have extra time while you’re in Panama, I definitely suggest exploring the San Blas Islands. They’re an absolute dream—turquoise water, soft white sand, and little islands that feel untouched. A lot of people rent boats and stay out on the water for a few days to hop between islands, but if that’s not in your plans, there are also amazing day tours available. The one I linked is a great option—it takes you to Misdup Island (a quiet, uninhabited spot with crystal-clear water), Yanis Island (picture-perfect and tropical), and the Natural Pool, where you can swim with starfish right in the middle of the sea. The islands are run by the Guna Yala people, so you’ll also get a glimpse of their culture and traditions while enjoying some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. It’s such a fun way to experience Panama if you’re looking for a little adventure and relaxation all in one.
The Causeway is a great spot for a morning or late afternoon walk or bike ride. It connects a few small islands just off the coast and gives you amazing views of both the skyline and the bay. Along the way, you’ll find little cafés, shops, and even gelato. If you have time, pop into the Biomuseo—a colorful, world-renowned museum designed by Frank Gehry that’s dedicated to Panama’s unique biodiversity. It’s fun, interactive, and makes the whole area feel even more special.
If you’re looking to explore beyond Panama City, Bocas del Toro is such a fun option. It’s a group of islands on the Caribbean side known for their colorful vibe, overwater bungalows, beautiful beaches, and nightlife. To get there, you’ll need to take a short flight from Panama City (about an hour), and I’d recommend planning for at least two days since it’s not really a day trip. Bocas has come a long way in recent years and now has some really nice hotel options, from boutique eco-lodges to overwater stays. You can spend your days hopping between islands, relaxing on beaches like Red Frog, snorkeling, or even spotting dolphins. The main town, Bocas Town, has a lively energy with restaurants and bars, while nearby islands like Bastimentos offer a more laid-back escape.
Boquete is a colorful mountain town in the Chiriquí highlands, about an hour flight from Panama City to David plus a 45-minute drive. Known for its cool climate and stunning scenery, it’s the perfect mix of peace and adventure. You can tour world-famous coffee farms, hike to waterfalls, spot wildlife, or try activities like rock climbing and zip-lining—all balanced with cozy meals in town. If you’re planning to stay in Panama before or after the wedding, Boquete is a great option for a couple of days to enjoy the fresh mountain air and a completely different side of the country.
If you need to do any personal shopping while you’re in town, Multiplaza is the go-to. It’s a huge, upscale shopping mall with just about every store you can think of—from Zara and Nike to Louis Vuitton and Chanel. It’s about a 15–20 minute drive from Casco Viejo and super easy to navigate.
