9:00 am - 11:30 am
The weekend before our wedding, we will celebrate with our shul community at Congregation Shaare Zedek and Kehilat Hadar. During the regular shabbat morning service, Sara will have an aliyah (be called up to the Torah), and then a blessing will be recited for Sara and Jonathan. After the service, we will sponsor kiddush and there will be some light refreshments.
12:00 pm
Please wear something that makes you happy! (Really, no official dress code. If you like it, we like it.) Also, make sure your shoes are comfortable for dancing.
Our wedding day will begin with kabbalat panim at 12:00. We'll start with some pre-ceremony Jewish rituals, including the signing of our ketubah and marriage license. (And ideally by then, we'll have printed up a little booklet to explain them.) Next we'll move upstairs for the main ceremony. Jonathan's brother Michael (formally, Rabbi Michael Cohen) will officiate. After that, we'll have the rest of the afternoon to dance, eat, and otherwise celebrate. The meal will be dairy and vegetarian, and may also include fish. We'll be sure to have some items that are gluten free and some that are vegan. Sara expects you to dance. The first part of the dancing will be a hora, which really just means we will all run around in circles to Hebrew music until we get tired. When the English music starts up. we promise no judgment and don't care if you dance like Elaine. (We are far from Fred and Ginger ourselves.)
