Meghan was on a Harry Potter bar crawl at Red Lion at the University of Illinois and something about her maroon Gryffindor t-shirt caught Mark's eye. Luckily, her sorority sisters, including one donned as Voldemort, didn't scare Mark away and they chatted up over gin and tonics. Meghan says it was love at first sight, but conveniently didn't mention she was leaving for Spain in a month. Dozens of love letters and two flights to Europe later, they knew it was for the long haul.
Meghan had just graduated from Cornell and they were celebrating her friend's wedding in Puebla, Mexico. After a few days in Puebla, they set sail for Tulum, where Mark was going to propose. Let's just say the "ambiance" was not was he was expecting, so they headed to a resort in Mayakoba for a relaxing couple of nights to celebrate 9 years together. Mark was being particularly romantic, so Meghan's spidey senses were up (not to mention that Mark would not let her use the hotel safes under any circumstances throughout the trip). They sat on a bench overlooking the ocean waiting for their beachside dinner reservation. Mark slyly asked for a picture to commemorate the trip and then got down on one knee. Of course, Meghan said yes.
