Flight

Getting there

Four airports service California's central coast: Monterey, San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland. Flying into San Jose is the most convenient from most cities, though it is 120 miles from Big Sur. Most major airlines flying into San Jose and San Francisco International Airports have commuter flights to Monterey Airport. If you fly into Monterey, you'll be approximately 30 miles from Big Sur Valley. It may take a bit to get to Big Sur but it's worth it.

Shuttle

Shuttle to the wedding

May 18, 2019 2:00 pm - 11:00 pm

A shuttle will pick you up at Big Sur hotels at around 2p and will leave Anderson Canyon frequently as the party winds down. The shuttle can also pick you up at Carmel hotels but it will need to do so very early and drop you off very late.

Travel Note

Hotels

Big Sur hotels quickly fill up. We strongly recommend booking as soon as possible. Semi-affordable options include Big Sur River Inn, Big Sur Lodge, and Glen Oaks. If you want to splurge, Post Ranch Inn and Ventana are beautiful options. You can also stay in Carmel; however, the shuttle will need to pick you up very early and drop you off very late for Friday's and Saturday's events.

Travel Note

The Roads

There is only one road in Big Sur — the Pacific Coast Highway. It's beautiful but can be dangerous. The highway cuts into various stretches of fog year-round — when we stayed there a few years ago, fog had descended during our drive to dinner and it was stressful. Be sure your headlights are working before you hit the road, even if you’re only driving during the day, and don't hesitate to pull off to the side of the road if needed.
