When starting at Notre Dame, Mark was in Dillon Hall, and Kate was in Welsh Family Hall. Two young freshmen in brother sister dorms: a true match made from the beginning. While we initially met at the end of first semester freshman year, we didn't become close until the end of freshman year, when Mark asked Kate to be his Confirmation sponsor. We became closer and closer through each week of the Confirmation process, spending every Sunday together. A true friendship, a best friend friendship, began to develop and we knew we'd be in each other's lives for the long haul. As the classic best friends to ~more than friends~ trope goes, Mark realized he wanted to be more than friends sooner than Kate, who took her sweet time figuring out how she really felt about Mark. We parted ways at the end of freshman year as great friends, talking all summer long and even meeting up in Minnesota. However, it took until the beginning of sophomore year for Kate to finally get it through her thick skull how she felt about Mark (by this point, everyone else in our lives knew). And on September 22, 2018, Mark made it out of the friendzone and we officially started dating and haven't looked back!
