5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
What to wear? Anything goes, from sundresses and sandals to jeans and tees.
Everyone invited to the wedding is invited to join in the fun Friday night as well (as long as you are vaccinated); get to know our other friends and families! In case of rain we'll have a tent so please come anyway. We now have approval to serve beer and wine, hooray! We'll have some fun dancing with a caller (some line dances, square dances, circle dances, all with instruction) so wear practical shoes! Anyone for the electric slide? Tentative agenda: Eat dinner and mingle 5-7:00; dancing instruction 7:00-7:30; toasts/funny stories about Mark or Jill 7:30; 8-9 dancing or mingling.
9:30 am - 11:00 am
casual or hiking clothes
Meet in front of the Visitor's Center at 9:30 am for a walk on the boardwalks over the wetlands. We might see turtles, snakes, lots of birds (optional to bring binocs) and once we saw a muskrat! If you arrive late, head out to the boardwalk (starting with the far right path) and you can catch up.
5:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Cocktail Attire: e.g., cocktail dresses, dressy jumpsuits, and jackets and slacks. We've had several questions about suits vs. just jackets; we recommend jacket and tie (or no tie) , not a suit.
Please come if you are vaccinated. Ceremony starts promptly at 5 pm; for hotel guests, there will be a shuttle to and from the hotel in Old Town Alexandria; departure is 4:30. Note on River Farm: the farm was once part of George Washington’s five farms. Washington leased the land to a tenant farmer before giving it as a wedding present to Martha Washington’s niece and her husband. They called it Walnut Tree Farm, and there is still a black walnut tree on the property. Washington brought back seeds of the Kentucky coffee tree after one of his surveying trips in the Ohio River valley and descendants of trees grown by Washington are at River Farm. The Osage orange tree, the oldest tree at River Farm, was possibly a gift from Thomas Jefferson to the Washington family. River Farm has been the home of the American Horticultural Society for nearly 50 years. It is for sale ($32.9 million).
11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Come as you are.
Come see our new rental home! Drop in anytime between 11 and 2; have some coffee and a casual munchy brunch before heading off. BUT NOTE that there are quite a lot of steps behind the house to get down to the lake access area where we'll be gathering. If that's a problem you could gather inside the house with folks, but be aware that while eating and drinking, people will probably not have masks on. Also in case of rain we'll be inside, so keep that in mind when you plan whether to come on Sunday. If the weather is nice, you can take out our canoe or one of our kayaks and explore the lake! If you're interested in kayaking you may want to bring a change of pants as you might get wet.
