***UPDATE***

Dear family and friends, First off, thank you so much for taking the time to fill out our survey over the last week. Your support and feedback helped to provide clarity and direction while facing this decision. With that being said, we have chosen to postpone our wedding day to Saturday, August 28, 2021. Same time, same place, just a new date to celebrate. The safety and wellness of our loved ones has always been our top priority and we feel that postponing our wedding until next summer is the best way to ensure this. Plus, what fun is a socially distanced wedding, anyways?! We are already looking forward to 8/28/21 and are excited for you to save our new date. We hope that we have given you sufficient time to adjust any travel arrangements and apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Keep an eye out for our change-the-date cards in the mail and feel free to reach out to us personally at markandhilary2020@gmail.com. We can't wait to celebrate with you! Love, Hilary & Mark

The Back Story

Our First 6 Years

May 2013-Hilary trades the desert for the mountains and moves from Phoenix to Denver. July 2013-Mark moves to Denver from the beautiful state of Iowa. September 12, 2013-Mark and Hilary meet for the first time at one of Denver's finest institutions, Bull & Bush Brewery. Fun fact: Mark nearly chose to stay home that fateful night because of the monsoon that was happening outside. Good thing he didn't let a little rain scare him! December 20, 2013-Mark makes it official and asks Hilary to be his girlfriend over a game of skee-ball at Don's, another one of Denver's landmark watering holes. Winter 2013-Fall 2019-Lots of fun, laughter, love, and snuggles with Breck. Highlights include endless mountain adventures full of hiking, camping, and fishing, concerts at Red Rocks, the Imogene Pass trail run, trips to Iowa and Arizona to spend time with family, and more weddings than we can count! September 2019-The start of Eurotrip 2k19 to Austria, Germany, and Croatia, where our next chapter begins...

The Proposal

10/2/2019

After a week of traveling through Europe with a ring in his backpack (unbeknownst to Hilary), Mark decided it was time to finally pop the question. We rented a car and drove from Split to Plitvice National Park, a forest reserve in Croatia with the most beautiful cascading lakes and waterfalls. The morning started with a cloudy, rainy hike but the sun appeared for our boat ride in the early afternoon. We crossed multiple foot bridges to make our way to the biggest waterfall in the park, and Mark's hands didn't leave his pockets as he constantly checked to make sure the ring hadn't fallen into the rushing water below. After taking in the incredible sights and snapping way too many selfies, Hilary picked up her pack to start the hike back. Mark insisted we stay a little bit longer and said he had one more question to ask. He got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of his pocket, and promptly dropped it into the water. Just kidding. He asked Hilary to marry him and to spend the rest of their lives together. Big surprise here, she started crying immediately before she managed to eek out a "yes!". We took several more photos to document the occasion, grabbed a Croatian beer from the snack kiosk, cheers-ed to our engagement, and celebrated the rest of our time abroad.
