Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is a 5 minute drive from downtown Bar Harbor and is consistently found on lists of the best National Parks to visit in the United States! This is a popular hiking and camping destination.
Mount Desert Island
This is the largest island off the coast of Maine and the second largest (behind Long Island, New York) on the eastern seaboard of the United States!
The CAT - Bay Ferries
If you plan to head up to Bar Harbor a little bit early or stay an extra day, a unique trip option is taking a ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada! The ferry ride is 3.5 hours each way, so this would be a venture to plan in advance, but the ride offers plenty of sightseeing and amazing ocean views. There are also numerous amenities offered on board, such as dining, shopping and entertainment.
Ocean Path Trail
This two mile stretch of ocean hiking trails contain some of the most significant features of Acadia National Park, such as Sand Beach and Thunder Hole.
Abbe Museum
This is one of the most popular museums in the area, centered around local history.
Town Pier
The Town Pier is a large, four-acre walkway (made up of two piers) with beautiful oceanfront views. There is a lawn adjacent to the pier which is a popular picnic spot. There are also boat/kayak rentals and sailing opportunities offered here!
The Chart Room
This restaurant is a local favorite and has been operating for decades! They offer fresh seafood and gorgeous ocean views.
