For the Love of the Game

Some love stories start at school, some start at a bar, some start on an app, this one starts on a baseball field…

Andy and Marissa met in the spring of 2021 on the St. Christopher’s School baseball field. Andy was hitting ground balls to the players and Marissa was starting her new role as team score keeper - a job she quickly realized was more challenging than just counting the number of times they ran around the bases. Luckily, Andy was always right there to teach her about niche baseball rules and confirm whether it was a hit or error. A friendship blossomed that season during long conversations on the team bus, but it wasn’t until their players started asking if they were dating that they realized there might be something more. But baseball season came to an end, and they didn’t meet again until the following March. Luckily, despite the time away, the feelings were still there and they finally decided to give it a shot. In the years since, Andy and Marissa have traveled to new places together, renovated two houses, bowled a combined 300, and made arguably their best decision yet - becoming parents to their perfect Boykin Spaniel puppy Sylvia. They’ve enjoyed learning about each other’s interests with Andy buying an electric keyboard to learn a little piano, and Marissa donning her electrical toolbelt to help Andy fish wires. They’ve also taken on new endeavors together such as Sylvia’s dog agility league. And while they are quick to say yes to new experiences and plans with friends, they also enjoy their weekly routines together - Friday night date nights at Laura Lees, walks to the farmer’s market with Sylvia, and weekly crossword puzzles on the couch. It’s been a wonderful journey since that first hello in the dugout, and they can’t wait to gather with friends and family on June 20th to start their new chapter.
