Flight
We recommend that you fly into FCO as it is a short 30 minute train ride from Rome's central train station, Roma Termini. This airport is small and easy to navigate compared to many international airports. Once landed and through customs, you will follow signs for the Leonardo Express by Trenitalia. Tickets are purchased at any number of available kiosks at the airport, so there is no need to purchase these train tickets ahead of time.
Travel Note
Italy is a full 6 hours ahead of Florida so plan your flight accordingly! Many flights from the U.S. to Italy include a layover leading to 12+ hours of travel time. There are currently no nonstop flights from Orlando or Tampa to Italy, but there nonstop flights that leave from Miami. In general, flights from Miami are slightly cheaper without factoring in travel cost to Miami. If you are staying in our offered accomodations, plan to arrive on Tuesday, October 6th, and leave on Sunday, October 11th in order to get the most out of your trip. To mitigate jet lag and lugging your bags around Rome all day, we recommend leaving the night of Monday, October 5th. In the event that you wish to arrive earlier or leave later, there are plenty of affordable AirBNB and vacation rentals in and around Rome.
Travel Note
To travel internationally you must have your passport. To account for administrative and mailing time, we recomend getting your passport no later than May of 2026. But, the sooner, the better! You do not need an active passport in order to purchase flights, but you will need one to check-in and actually travel on the flight. Be sure to check the expiration date on your passport. In order to travel to Italy, your passport must be valid through at least February 2027, but in general a passport valid for more than six months after your return is best. Click the button below for more information on how to apply for or renew your passport.
Train
The metro in Rome is everywhere and very affordable. As long as you have a debit/credit card with tap-to-pay, Apple Pay, or Google Wallet, then you don't even need to buy tickets! It autocalculates transfers and daily passes if you use the metro a lot in one day, saving your money without causing any headaches. The city buses work the exact same way.
Train
If you are planning to take a day trip outside of Rome, or continuing your trip after October 6th, Italy's Frecciarossa trains take you to all major cities. You can buy tickets at the train station, but the prices are cheaper and availability more reliable when booking using Trenitalia's online website (available in English!). To get to smaller cities and towns you will usually need to purchase Regionale train tickets. It is much better to purchase these kinds of tickets in-person at the train stations as they cost MORE online. Regionale trains are slower and older, sometimes being standing room only.
House Or Rental
We will book a vacation rental once we have a confirmed list of guests that will be attending.
